I find this show poorly done, considering the opportunity to bring all the wonders of bellydance...it look too, produced, much like an MTV video. Bellydance is wonderous for fitness, but I find that the spirit and power in feminity missing..would like to see it redone, its a good idea. BTW I have been bellydancing for five years, so I do know a bit about it ladyoftrees@aol.com
I, too, have been a bellydancer for several years. However, I thoroughly enjoyed the show. The moves are broken down, the pace is good and I rather like the look of it. Good job. I look forward to seeing more episodes.
I had switched to FitTV to escape some commercials I deemed inappropriate for my little ones and stumbled upon this show. I was immediately hooked.
The moves are broken down and easy to duplicate. I do wish there were a bit more verbal instruction on how exactly to execute a move (hold in tummy, bend right leg, etc.) but because of the different camera angles and the various shots of different dancers executing the same movement, I am able to figure it out quite easily. The show is beautifully produced. I love the photography, the sets, the outfits and the makeup. One thing that has turned me off in the past when I've viewed Belly Dance DVDs is the over the top makeup and costumes - I've never been able to get past it. Shimmy is not like that. I love that the makeup is natural, the costumes are only slightly embellished workout gear (BTW- I'd LOVE one of those waist adornment bands)and the dancers are gorgeous with genuine and pleasant expressions on their faces.
I'm a fan. A completely uncoordinated novice, but definitely a fan!
It is like you guys read my mind!! I love this show! I am so excited to try something new and fun--plus it is at a pace I can follow. I know I won't be a Karen anytime soon but I would sure like to see what I can do.
