Once again, as a Certified Personal Trainer, this show is wrong on so many levels that I don't even know where to start. I watched one episode with 2 women who purchased a Bowflex and a Butt Blaster. Neither of these women were familiar with exercise or equipment. Finally, after struggling for 2 weeks, Melissa calls a professional trainer...DUH!!! This should have been the FIRST thing that was done for these beginners. Rosetta (who purchased the Bowflex) lost body fat, but the scale did not move much. Well, once again, you cannot just buy a piece of equipment and expect miracles. You also HAVE TO ADD CARDIO EXERCISE to the equation AND you HAVE TO EAT RIGHT!! I'm sure the trainer probably told her this during their session.
For the woman who purchased the Butt Blaster, I would have advised, that although it is great to work on your lower half, you really need a TOTAL BODY exercise routine along with proper nutrition. If someone wanted to purchase one piece of equipment, this is not what I would recommend.
The bottom line is that if these women wanted to invest in their health, they should have used the money spent on equipment to hire a Certified Personal Trainer for 6-12 weeks who could have shown them the proper form, frequency and intensity level of exercise, counsel them on proper nutrution and get them motivated. A trainer can show them exercises they can do in their own home with merely a couple of sets of dumbbells.
With the Bowflex costing in excess of $1600 and taking up so much space, Rosetta could have purchased 16-21 sessions with a personal trainer.
Even if people buy equipment, they don't know how to use it, how many days a week, how many reps, how many sets, etc. Also, if your goal is to lose fat, you MUST ALSO ADD PROPER NUTRITION AND AEROBIC activity along WITH the STRENGTH TRAINING in order to be successful. Rosetta believed the Bowflex advertisement that 20 mins. three times a week would give her the body of the fitness models in their ads. Thank goodness the trainer stepped in to tell her that this is not the case. Without a trainer, chances are her Bowflex will simply become an expensive clothes hanger in another month.

If the sole purpose of the show is to evaluate exercise equipment, get professional trainers to do it! If the purpose of the show is to help people get started with exercise, PLEASE GET THEM TO A CERTIFIED TRAINER (for more than one session) and let the trainer recommend the equipment!!
