Here's is Dave's response from 3/14/2008 re the Brown Plate Special:
"The whole "incident" was quite serendipitous really. We were supposed to shoot that stuff two weeks prior in the SF Bay area, but I had to leave due to a family emergency. When I had left, I still did not even have a location to film, with the shooting just two days away.
The the next time out, we find ourselves in Fair Oaks IN, with some very gracious dairy owners who happen to have a "clubhouse" for entertaining on the property! As you saw the location was everything I wanted: a large table, a place to cook- even a fireplace.
I had the the story arc all mapped out as well as what was going to be shot where and when. But these things are constantly evolving in on the set. Before we began, Mike starts lamenting that he did not have a bathrobe, and I was really wishing I had an apron.
So its off to Walmart for our coordinator Ira, and Sue McCloskey, Dairy Owner. Ira calls me, saying that Walmart has only white robes, and if you don't already know, white is bad for tv. I tell him to just get pajamas.
A few minutes later Ira calls back, saying that they have found some rather "girly" robes that would most likely not fit us properly. "Awesome, Ira! Grab 'em and get back so we can start shooting!"
They were great choices, and we got lucky it was only a few days before Valentines Day.
We sort out who's wearing what- although Sue picked out my ensemble just for me- and we shot a tv show. The red hat was on the hat rack by one of the doors when we got there. Since it matched my robe so well I just stuck it on my head.
My only true regret is that I forgot to wear my cow skin apron whilst cooking tilapia.
