Dr. Emanuel, I heard your chaos theory based carbon dust seeding to cool the air and create a system pushing out to sea a hurricane projected to hit land on east coast as dramatized on the Superstorm show this evening.
Years ago I had concept based on air cooling of my own, tell me what you think of its feasibility. Given: the fact that hurricanes cannot form if water temperature over which they could form is less than 80 degrees. Plan: for a potentially forming weather system just off the coast of northern west Africa(which is their source) have the water cooled just before their path by a few degrees until they system breaks up. How: to do the cooling is my real idea (other ideas such as oil slicks or jet engine spayers dont' work or don't seem feasible to me!). My idea is to build in geosynchronous orbit a very large sunscreen(many square acres or miles.. a good use for the space station and shuttle) of very light weight but opaque, or nearly so, film that is movable in space. The shadow cast by this screen could be lensed/moved from place to place to cast a shadow over the target area that would cool the water to prevent the build up of a serious system or perhaps to at least move it so as to stay as sea !! (thus my coolrays screen name!!
And the first thing they will use it for is to push the hurricane into a country they want to attack like Iran. You KNOW anything like that will be used by the military. Another space weapon to worry about and more reasons fro terrorism.
