I am a law biding citizen. I was wondering what happens if you are mistaken for the "bad guy" and tased? Did I also mention that I have a pacemaker/ defibrillator? Could it affect my devise?
Able, That is a very reasonable question; but like Bob says, the Taser (I am assuming that you are talking about the M/X-26 from Taser Intl) is designed to use a different frequency from pacemakers or the human heart itself. I carry a M-26 everyday on duty, and was one of the first on my department to be trained and issued a Taser. I have used it (both with the probes and touch stuns) probably 50 times in over 7 years, and have seen many other deployments. The only injuries that I have seen from the use of Tasers is from the fall after being struck (usually when subjects are running at the time of deployment). A Taser by itself will not harm a person - ALL 'Taser deaths' have been shown to have been caused by other conditions (primarily drug use or extreme medical conditions). Is the Taser perfect? No; there are a few people that it simply doesn't effect (usually someone with a history of major drug abuse - their nervous systems have been damaged by that drub abuse, and the Taser is designed to affect the 'normal' system); some people will continue to fight as soon as the Taser discharge is finished; and the range is limited. But it is a great tool for Law Enforcement - and has saved many lives and injuries (to officers, subjects, and civilians).
