I really like the new Mecum Auction TV show. Thanks to Discovery/turbo for airing these auctions live. The first episode was so much more real than the auction show I see on another channel. It is really cool to see more "real life" cars - cars that I could own or actually see at the drive in on Friday night. Dont get me wrong, 4 million busses are exciting, but it is not real, and I dont think most people believe it is real either.
Thanks to Turbo and Mecum auction for hosting a live auction event with cars like what are in my garage!
I think it's a great concept, but I am not interested in watching the auctioneer or the assistants on the floor. I am interested in seeing the vehicles that are being auctioned off. Please show more of the cars and a lot less of the people!
am watching the show now and i think it is better than the Barrett Jackson auctions on SPEED. B-J's prices are outrageous. In my opinion Mecum more accurately depicts the real world value of collector cars. However the floor "shills" on both auctions are rather irritating. If I were bidding and one of them got in my face or latched onto my arm, I would immediately stop bidding and let him or her know they were the reason why. The British auctions like Sotheby are much more enjoyable to watch and/or participate in without the uniquely American fast talking ex tobacco auctioneer. The slower, quieter British auctioneer manages to sell just as many per hour without being a loud mouth. Anyway, thanks for televising the auctions and I shall continue to watch and restore my 1952 Olds 98 Holiday h.t.
LOVE IT! Now I actually want to watch TV on Sat night! I understand wanting to see more of the cars, a preview show would be a great addition (MECUM’s website also shows them in depth) but please don't loose the crew - Dana's energy and the amazing rolling tongues of the auctioneers makes it funny & interesting. I'm captivated by watching them try to close the deal, the pressure put on the seller to take off the reserve, the bond with the familiar buyers and the random comments from the auctioneer like Jimmy saying "what am I doing guys?" in the middle of his fast talk of numbers. Watching the circus of selling and seeing the great cars makes me feel like I’m actually at the auction which I believe is what the show is really trying to capture – so great job guys, please don’t change it!
I absolutely HATE IT! This may be a fine half hour show that is on once a week but this show is on all the time for hours and hours at a time! HD Theater used to be my favorite HD channel and now I can't even watch it! Sorry for those that are fans but I would be willing to bet the vast majority of people who receive HD Theater are not pleased with the amount of programming time devoted to this boring, unimaginative show. Please, please get rid of it or reduce it to a half hour show.
Show more of the car interiors! Most of the time we never get to see the interior of the cars. Come on that is just as interesting as the outside of the car.
I am watching the July, 5th show and was thoroughly upset that when the show goes to commercial that it doesn't return to where it left off. This is a recorded show is it not! Why do you not return so that none of the action is missed???? The one car I was waiting to see came up on the auction block and the show went to commercial! Fine, but come back to where the action left off not at where it would be if it were live. Come on already.
By the way I would also like to add I think this is a cool show and look forward to it. Just come back to where you left off after the commercial, PLEASE!
I can't stress how terrible this show is. The show is rotten to the core because the concept is so abysmally stupid, I'm stunned that anybody even OK'd it. Discovery and other networks have been successful (in varying degress) in dramatizing everything from motorcycle mechanics to lumberjacks. But, auto auctioneers? Please, this is so dumb. Car guys watch car auctions because we dream about the cars. I could not care less about the people selling the cars. Repeat, COULD NOT CARE ANY LITTLE BIT LESS about the guys selling the cars. If you are really in to auctions, maybe this is your show. All 2 of you. For me and people like me who actually know what we are looking at, this show is endlessly frustrating as car after car rolls across the stage with nary a word about it. All we see is a bunch of fat rednecks hassling the owner and the buyers over money. You're reality show about car auctions is a bust Discovery.
I just wish someone would clue the announcers in to the fact that when it comes to classic Pontiac V8's, there's no such thing as a "big block" or a "small block". Every Pontiac V8 from the 326 up through the mighty 455 are all externally the same size. Sit a 326 on a stand next to a 455, and the only way to tell the difference between them is to read and interpret codes and numbers. It's embarrassing when some clueless announcer says, in reference to a '68 GTO, "it has the 'big block' 400". Sheesh. Get it right, guys.
Nice vehicles. Good to see some of the Barrett-Jackson Auctioneers working this show. Get a bit of a kick out of the inbred hillbillies in the bidder's area. BUT, the most PAINFUL aspect of this show are the three commentators. They know so little about cars it is embarrassing! Watch the pros who commentate Barrett-Jackson...they KNOW THEIR FACTS. These clowns are so bad, I turn the volume all the way down and put some music on while I watch. If I wasn't such a car enthusiast, I wouldn't punish myself; but, those commentators have to go !! The 'Tool' on the stage with the mike and cameraman is the absolute worst!! My Mother knows more about cars than he does!
This auction is horrible. See the same corvettes over and over again. The commentators don't even seem into it at all. The worst part is 90% of the cars DON'T EVEN SELL. Its ridiculous. This is why Barrett-Jackson is far superior. I wish that BJ was in high definition, and not Mecum, thats only thing that makes it watchable.
