I had flick through to this show in the past. Always flicked away from it soonest. Can't stand a wussy pretending to be a man talking about big man's stuff. Even my wife said he should do a show on quilting instead.
Dear Discovery, I am a civil engineer for a structural engineering firm. I love the premise of the show. It has the same potential as Dirty Jobs, which gives an insight to some really fascinating topics. But at least that show has a personable host that can relate to the audience and give it personality. So when I, an engineer, see this NERD act the way he does on the show I am enraged with the stereotype that my clients probably put on me when I know engineers don't look or act the way this guy does. If Discovery went through a casting to find this guy I am SO annoyed and want this guy off. Any normal looking human being with an engineering degree would suffice for the job without looking like someone who plays video games during his lunch break.
I have to agree, this guy is horrible. He is always scared and looks like he has never picked up a tool before. Being in construction for over 15 years, it hurts to watch this guy in his designer clothes trying to explain this stuff. Discovery should use the host of Really Big Things to host and just merge the 2 shows together since they're pretty much the same show and I can respect Matt Rogers. No disrespect to Danny but he just doesn't do it for me
I suppose he does look & or act strange to us folkes in the business. But I am glad for these shows so the rest of humanity especially the collage class can see that this is a skilled profession, hard working and dangerous and not just anybody can do it. Maybe it can raise an awareness that they will not be taken for granted and be cast aside when they get injured or retire.
I can barely get through an episode sense they added Danny. Even though the subject on the show is very interesting the fact that Danny is so annoying makes me turn it off before it ends.
Please bring back Extreme Engineering w/out a host! Danny is no Mike Rowe. He lacks all of the likable characteristics Mike has.
He has destroyed (Extreme Engineering) one of my favorite series!
Yes, it's true Danny can be annoying due to his fear of heights, fear of tools, fear of equipment, crashing, breaking and ruining of equipment. But I do agree that in some way Danny makes the average person have more respect for the industry. Construction/Engineering is not for the weak of heart. By the way I didn't see you up on the build in China...

I get the sense that you and 96crba are the same person, based on the promixity of your posts, your registration dates, and the fact you agree with each other 100% of the time.
Please get rid of Danny ASAP. There is a reason he hasn't finished school. He is surprised by 20 year old technology. He misuses technical terms and latches on to lingo.
I just spend the last 15 minutes obtaining a sign id to leave this message. I tuned into Build it Bigger b/c my sales rep told me that his company would be featured on an episode. I liked the Dicovery channel but will NEVER watch again!! What an aggrevating host! !

His persona on the show makes it very entertaining. He has a degree in Architecture from Harvard and his wit shines through in his dialogue. KEEP DANNY
ive been reading alot of the posts about danny and i thought i was alone i think he should go too after watching the coaster build off it got so bad i was begging for a gust of wind to come up and crush his hand on the steel coaster give him something to really cry about after seeing this show it just reafirms my thoughts on the ongoing pussifaction of americans he didnt get beat enough as a child
did you see the episode where the Iron workers from Va. were calling him pretty britches an sissy pants or something very close to that? I think they summed up how a lot of people think.
To the E.P. of this show: Look at the numbers bro.. listen to what the audience is saying. The Demo is not happy. You've got this awesome show.. hitting at the right time, on the right channel.. with good content. But you've got Peter Pan hosting it! I'm all about grassroots talent.. but c'mon man.. not at this level. At the very least you need someone a little more motivated. I want to believe in what I'm being sold. I want to be able to enjoy the visuals and possibly even learn something too.. but its hard to do that.. with a guy that doesn't get his role. If you care at all about your show and what it (could) be.. drop this guy. Get someone in there that will pump up the viewer.. and make them wish they were standing next to them at 190 stories.. not wanting to push the 'host' over the side...
he should only host Shows segments that are architectural... Find an equal Engineer to do Stuctural programs in fact have the new guy, or Dany boy come back to Pass Christian to answer some very serious questions... 167 folks died in hurricane proof homes....
They called him "sweet britches." I believe you (and others) are incorrectly getting the impression that the workers don't like Danny. As you may have read on these boards, workers from the Navy destroyer, LA water tunnel, roller coaster, and boot camp episodes have all posted compliments and positive messages concerning their experiences with Danny.
As for Paul, who said the "sweet britches" comment, he apparently will be appearing with Danny on Larry King in the future (Danny posted that in the Ask Danny section). Don't confuse good-natured ball-busting for dislike. As someone who's spent a great deal of time on jobsites, I can vouch for this happening all the time.
While he might get in the way a bit on the job site, in the end he hosts an hour-long show that showcases the workers and the projects they are working on.
who do want hosting the show, a navy seal tuff guy,rachael Ray,god help us all !!! danny is smart,has sense of humor,and a natural fear of heights like millions of people,how about you out there 140 stories up out there in the raw, see how you react,keep up the great work danny.
I have spent every day except some weekends and holidays of the past 15 years on either commercial , industrial and even some time on residential construction sites. I understand good natured ball busting . I just thought it was pretty funny is all typical iron worker stuff . I don't really mind Danny that much ... just bustin'balls a little is all. Just like 90 % of the people on this string Mike Rowe can't host every show a narrator might work for this show. In any case I was not trying to be offensive , just pointing out that a lot of people come off with the same impression as that Iron worker did
This man acts like a little boy in a toy store. It is one thing to be into the topic and impressed but another to ask obvious questions and to be asked to move several times because he stands in the way. he appears childish and is astonished by the slightest thing. A real turn-off.
AARGhhh... This guy is the Bob Saget of the Discovery Channel. You got to get rid of him. Love the show, not the host . Can't watch it for more than 2 minutes without changing the channel. Lost a lot f advertising dollars....

I couldn't agree more, Danny is a tool and the job is way over his head. There is no doubt he built himself up to the Discovery people and it is obvious by his narcissistic comments always saying "I did" this, "I built" that, and "I moved" this, never a "WE" giving the actual workers credit. The workers he interacts with are obviously annoyed by him.
Look at the Pre-Fabbed home for instance. You could tell the workers dreaded being around him and he took credit for the house!
Sure he may have the school smarts, but that's it! He has no physical agility, common sense, never attempts to build a rapport with the workers like Mike Rowe does SO WELL. The guy screws everything up. He obviously has no physical hands-on work experience. He belittles the people doing remedial work like cleaning windows.
The guy is afraid of heights, the show is named "Build it Bigger"....need I say more? Obviously you'll be required to climb extreme heights!
I'm interested in the show premise, but abhor the host!!! DISCOVERY...TAKE DANNY OFF, there is no hope for him WHATSOEVER because that is his personality, you can't change that!!! HE IS THE WORST POSSIBLE HOST you could have chosen.
I have to say, it is truly astonishing to me how unsophisticated television viewers have become. It's amazing to me that you can watch this show, and not understand Danny's "Fish out of water" presence is a conceptual part of the show. Viewers need to be spoon fed like babies nowadays.
mrquimby, I just read your post and I am starting to come around. In fact just this morning I posted a response with a similar thought behind it the whole white collar blue collar dynamic the more I see the more the whole thing makes sense and it can be pretty amusing.
I'm a woman and I feel more butch then he protrays. any second I swear he is going to call for his mommy. I love the show but please please find someone with more talent, guts and alot more intresting like Mythbusters, Dirty Jobs well heck pretty much all of the other Discovery Hosts. Sorry Man I will apoligize for putting you down, Love the show, if they do remove you, good luck in your next venture.
