was he on the island of Sumatra..if so why does it say deserted island. Also in the episode he claims one of the dangers is tigers. The tigers on Sumatra are extinct or on the verge of extinction. They say there are 50 tigers left for the whole island. And the island of Sumatra is huge, 470,000 km. The chances of running in to a tiger is as remote as winning the lottery. this show is full of crap

I don't think I could take being pelted by rain like that. I can see, also, that it would really bring your spirits down. I thought this was a good episode, though. Is it just me or does there seem to be more information in these new shows?

I noticed that the scene where he is descending the waterfall tied to the root looked a little choppy. When I watched it closely in slow motion (thanks to DVR), I noticed a 3rd black line, which I assume is an undisclosed safety belay rope. Then when he actually falls, you can clearly see the safety rope taut, but then the image cuts out. You then can see him falling a short distance into the water. I would expect to see the broken root trailing above him (and his belay line), but rather the root is BELOW him just before he lands. I presumed the following from watching closely several times: 1) He descended the waterfall using an undisclosed rope supporting him. 2) He fell into the water, but this is not the sequence we saw aired last night. 3) He then climbed up onto the rock at the bottom and said, "OK, roll now boys for a second take." (This is the position he would have to be in for the roots be BEHIND him during impact with the water). 4) He then jumped a short distance into the water. 5) In the studio then they cut and spliced it all together into a bit of a choppy finished product.
Now, I am an avid BG fan, and I will wait eagerly for the next episode. I am also an emergency physician, and I fully approve the safety line (particularly for Mrs. Grylls' sake). But please, keep it honest Bear!

There are about 400-500 Sumatratan tigers left in the wild. While the chances of running into a tiger may be statistically insignificant, it can happen (they killed nearly 150 people in 20 years) and there are also plenty of other critters you probably don't want to run into. There are several smaller islands and areas of Sumtrata which are sparsely populated, especially after being hit by the tsunami

This show looks like they decided to go back to the same format as the first season. He even finds civilization again at the end. I noticed the advertisements said he was supposed to spend 7 days on this island. But he only spent one night in the forest. Where did he spend the other 5 nights? It makes me think he was never very hungry, or cold, or wet for too long.

JSV75,
I didn't notice it the first time I watched it, but the second time I watched it, I noticed it clearly, even before he fell, I noticed the black line. Quite disappointing but still enjoyable to watch.
Even if the safety line caught him, they still held him in place and dropped him. So unless they lowered him a tad first, it still would of had the same impact if he had not had it on. I wasn't so disappointed that about the safety line holding him up, I don't want to see Bear die, but I was disappointed that Discovery did such a lousy job editing it. C'mon Discovery, you can do a better job than that.

I really liked this episode except for the monitor lizards head being beaten against the tree. I think that was totally uncalled for and that I was the first time I was really dissapointed in Bear.
I love his survival techniques and his personality, but I am really tired of seeing snakes get their head cut off for no reason and large lizards heads being beaten against a tree. Come one now, this is Discovery channel, that poor lizard looked healthy and didn't need to be killed.

Folks, Bear is quite honest about the fact that he always uses a safety line when he is making these climbs. Check out the behind the scenes vids on the official MvW wild page here at Disco. He talks about how they plan out his climbs, have a special safety director and how he always has a safety line that comes out of his right sleeve. It's not talked about in the show, but it is certainly not something he hides or is dishonest about.

Are we sure Discovery does the editing?

I agree that the show has been honest about the using of safety equipment. You have to go out and look for it (they don't really tell you during the show and do their best to hide it from the viewer) but you can find out about the safety precautions taken.

I really don’t believe we will see any more “behind the scenes” clips released for the new season. I think that was dropped along with the voice overs identifying scenes that are setup and explaining that he “gets help from local experts when needed”. That is just more honesty that the typical fan wants to hear.

Ya well Laylo, hopefully it gets dropped. What better way to ruin a TV show than to have kindergarden level explanations of whats real, where he slept last night, who helped him build, etc etc.... its ignorant. It adds nothing to show, only takes away. The majority of us can think for ourselves. And have an appreciation for time restraints and the difficulty involved in filming in that environment.

Does it ruin the fantasy for you? Maybe those explanations were for the benefit of the “typical” audience. I see from recent posts that 5 and 2 year olds seem to really enjoy this show. Why do you watch it?
Who is laylo?

why do I watch? For the same reason any person may watch any program, its the best option at the time, there is quite a few programs I would rather watch.
A far better question is why would you bother watching faithfully every week, since you have never had anything good to say about it, other than your tired old "best commedy on tv".
Oh and who is "the typical audience you refer to"?

LOL - You think I'm Laylo? ZZ, I can assure you I have never posted as "Laylo". Your powers of observation and deduction are not impressive. I think it is obvious that your opinions of MvW and Bear's survival expertise suffer from the same weak analytical skills.

"Who is laylo?"
ShadowStalker is laylo. He just tries to deny it and then talks trash. Just your average troll who wandered out of /b/.

I have no idea if SS is Laylo or not. And I am not familiar with every post he's ever made. But, for the record, I find nothing in his recent posts that I would consider trolling. ...Not in the posts that have been allowed to stand, anyway. If he was trolling they got deleted before I saw 'em.

only the mods know for sure. But its fair bet, he's one of 2 or 3 people since mods have busted him 3 times since he first registered just a few weeks ago.
