Get out the marshmallows and graham crackers! There might be a nice flame war brewing here!

Both shows are good, yet I must say that I'm a bigger fan of Bear Grylls than I am of Les Stroud. The main reason for this is because Man vs. Wild's format is designed to show the viewer as much as possible about how to survive in the various situations. Les Stroud, though he is absolutely alone, spends way too much time setting up his cameras to show as much as Bear does. Les Stroud hasn't impressed me with his survival knowledge, whereas even though Bear has others with him to give him survival knowledge, at least the knowledge is being presented.

Yes both shows are really good. But I would have to say that I like MVW better because Bear is more entertaining to watch most of the time than Les. While I respect Les because he is alone and he is very knowledgable, MVW just catches your attention more and Bear puts on a better show.

I think it would be an insult to Les to compare him to Bear. These are totally two different shows, Bear's show is fake, he's been caught faking everything and was forced to admit that he has professionals that helps him (as opposed to the original episodes where he tries to pretend he does all by himself - search youtube for Bear's fake "survival" clips) Les Stroud's show is about true and genuine survival, and contrary to Jones329's comment about Bear's show having more survival knowledge...he takes unnecessary risks just to be entertaining, just to be exciting...I don't have a problem with that, that's like hollywood but don't pretend to be a survival expert and then fakes survival. Some people have commented that they learn something from Bear's show...but the one thing Bear doesn't tell you is that you won't have the professionals that goes with him on his show with you when you get in a survival situation...you're on your own.

Bear's show is about showing off and animal cruelty - check out my post "MvW should be cancelled".

Bear isnt a survival expert and he never said he was. In the opening credits all he is says is im going to show you how to get out of these situations alive. In fact if you watch the ending credits you will see the survival experts name that helped out Bear. Its a showwww

I’ve been in the US Army for 16 years. Can’t say what I’ve done, but I now teach SERE (Survival Escape Resist and Evasion) to troops going all over the world. MVW is legit! Bear teaches more on the Evasion from the enemy techniques. These techniques are however not the way to go for all isolated personnel situations. That’s what the Army call’s it by the way, Isolated Solder Guidance (ISG). As far as Bear receiving food and water off camera? Who cares??? As long as he keeps ripping the heads off snakes with his teeth when they say “ACTION” I’m good. Again if you’re on a camping trip and family knows you are on a camping trip and you can’t make it back, then yes you would hang out and wait…If you think they can find you.
As far as entertainment…the survivor man makes me laugh !!!!!!!!!!!!! Other than that, they should take that of the air.
If MVW is not for you, you shouldn’t be outdoors anyway.

Purely your opinion and we all know what opinions are like....right? I have a deep love for the outdoors and I spend much of my time there. I do day hikes almost every day during the summer and go solo backpacking for week(s) every summer, spring and fall.

I prefer Survivor Man over MvsW. But, that is my opinion. I still watch MvsW, but mostly for the "train wreck" effect. I would actually say that MvsW, with it's intended message, is not for me. And according to you, I should stay indoors. Get real.

I am a prospector. I prospect for gems in the desert in the winter and gold in the mountains in the spring and summer. Consequently I know a lot about survival. Les tells it like it is, he lives it. I've seen Bear on M.V.W. do things time after time that you should never do in survival situations. A few examples, the best way to get down a hill is not to roll down it or run down it, but proceed carefully down it. If you want to die in a survival situation just break your leg. Or you can jump 40 feet into unknown water, go ahead break your back see if you survive that. Eat insects without cooking them. Do you know how quickly the diarrhea from intestinal parasites will kill you with dehydration. Besides you burn more calories catching most bugs than you get by eating it. Even freshwater fish such as Bluegill and perch have parasites beneath their skin and must be cooked. Les and Bear have an obligation to their viewers to keep them alive.

Less is so so boring. I can not stand his show more that a minute. Bear present a nice show. Bear really teaches you how to survive. Bear is active all the time, he does nice stuns. Bear is handsome, athletic, strong, sharp, and good looking. Poor ugly Less no comparison
