We have watched this show for a long time and we just watched our last episode. This most recent Belize episode where bear and crew happen across a 20ft Boa and kill it was really disappointing
Knowing how it is quickly becoming rarer and rarer to see a boa this large in the wild shows what this show is really about. Discovery channel has served as a place of awareness for so many people, for so long and this was just sad.
This show will last a lot longer if it shows more ecological awareness and sensitivity. It's borderline silliness.

I must say that your argument regarding native peoples is quite wrong. It is well documented that in most areas around the world, native people will kill any snake they see because they are scared they will strike. I do not believe Bear's killing of even 100 different snakes which are common in different regions will harm the ecosystem in any way. If it did, there would be no wild places due to indiginous people killing them. Secondly, Bear gets the all clear to make sure they are not endangered. It is well recorded that when an animal is threatened or endangered, he will not kill it. So please, stop the bs.

I reiterate that this these actions are totally for profit and entertainment. It's so unnecessary!! I just visited the beautiful and awesome country of Belize. The Belize Zoo teaches a message of pride and respect for all it's native species. We came across a boa in the wild. We observed it and photographed it. Just what Bear could have and should have done!

Then you went home and ate dinner- probably meat from a domesticated animal, I'm guessing.

Or did you eat those photographs for nourishment?

killing a boa is pointless... He's not surviving, he's trying to entertain. The show is to SHOW ppl what they could do in case they need to survive... There was no need to kill a poor lil boa for entertainment... I hope they get a lawsuit

Love the show, love Bear, but exploiting the animals for entertainment brings down the quailty. Les Stroud at least keeps the killing to a minimum.

wow... snake family... nice... So u are saying that it is ok for this faker to kill these animals that are not doing him harm what so ever... but if someone goes and shoots a dog then that's animal cruelty?

dont watch the show if u dont like what he's doing and stop crying as if anybody cares about ur feelings

LOL wow, anyone who doesn't agree with killing any and everything possible is now a "stupid hippy."

Emil, think of it this way, if you CAN...For one thing, Bear is NOT in an actual survival situation, any more than you are right this minute. Should Discovery display him killing and eating small amounts dogs and cats too, then discarding their bodies? Or is it just ok to show violence towards snakes, lizards, rabbits, whateverelsehekills? I'm guessing you'd be fine, just as long as you get to see blood and guts though.

No one is saying "OMG someone save all the snakes" they are saying that it's disgusting that the pointless carnage of wild animals (or any animals for that matter) is wrong, endangered or not. These animals aren't even killed for sport...they are killed strictly for entertainment, ratings, and for your "kicks."
