Ok, I've actually never seen the show before today, but in the first ten minuts "Bear" did enough to make want to write and e-mail, which I NEVER do over shows... I'm in NZ and the show just came to air here, but I am originally from N. America... In the first ten minutes of watching his show he's done 3 things that could potentially kill himself, over other things that are safer and easier, and told atleast 2 falsehoods. First, it's actually safer to sleep with a bear in your camp than it is to freak-out, get up in the middle of the night pack-up and go running through the woods. 10's of thousands of campers have incident free bear encounters every year (I've had 6 myself) and as long as you are not sleeping with pockets full of salami there is no reason to go running like a mad man in terror through the night where getting lost, or a fall is much more likely to cause injury than a bear... Second, he saw a bear track and claimed with "expert" opinion that it was less than an hour and a half old... But, the track itself had unmashed fallen leaves on top of it, indicating that would be much older... Third, he Jumped about 4 meters off a cliff into a stream who's depth and terrain he didn't know, all in the name of losing a bear, which wouldn't be chasing him to begin with (much more likely to hurt himself that way)... Third he ate wet raw trout out of a muddy pool, likely to cause either worms or giardia, both leathel in a survival situation (he later talks about the risk of giardia)... and Finally he finds a trash bag and says this could save my life... What do you do if you can't find a trash bag? Finally he claims he's out for five days, but admittidly he doesn't usually spend more than one day at a time in the wild... This might make for better television, but people following his advice are more likely to get sick and die rather than survive... the show should be called "WHAT NOT TO DO IN THE WILD". As an avid outdoorsman, I will avoid watching this again... oh and he just voluntarily floated himself down a river on the off chance it'll carry him somewhere, when it admittidly caused the death of two people earlier that year, does that sound smart... spend the extra couple of hours and walk the bank ya !!!!

Mr. Grylls is not very honest. As viewers, we should keep in mind why he does this show: to make money. I saw a rather silly and spurrious episode. Bear Grylls attempts to "tame a wild horse". This was ridiculous! Obviously, he doesn't know anything about horses. He said that it would take him at least a day to ride the horse. When breaking a horse in captivity it takes months of work to make a horse suitable to be ridden. Also, what was he planning to do after he mounted this "wild horse"? Was he going to steer his way out of his valley without a halter or a bridle? It is impossible to be accutely directional without some kind of rein. He was more likely to play fetch with a wild dog than to avoid the flight or fight of this herd. That glossy bay was some mustang. Taking into consideration that it was quite tall for a mustang (which usually stand between fourteen and fifteen hands) and that it was shod it is certain that this was no wild horse. He may have been in the SAS and climbed Mount Everest a couple of times, but he knows nothing of horsemanship.
Common sense says;Don`t believe everything you see on T.V. As many years as T.V. has been on,Why is it so difficult for people to still understand this?"I love this show" I enjoy it,but I have enough sense not to go out and act like another Bear Grylls..Most of the situations he is put in are dramatized for T.V. Just like every other,so called, reality show on television. Don`t be like the fans of Gilligan`s Island, years ago,who sent letters with suggestions on how to get off the island. (People actually did that)
To Veejay : He kills animals for food when he's got a group of professionals that goes with him when he's pretending to "survive in the wild" which means they have food, he doesn't need to kill anything because there's food available to him. He kills animal to have a show, there's no need for him to do that...he's not "trying to survive", he's showing "HOW" to survive. I learn a lot from Survivorman show with Les Stroud, that's genuine surviving, and yes I'm a fan and I believe him because he does research, he doesn't do the show to show off like Bear does, he studies and researches the local area and talks to the locals to provide as accurate information as possible.

Get over the fact that he kills animals for the show. Its going to be ok, I dont think hes going to wipe out a species or anything. And again I say, I wonder how those professionals got food. Maybe animals were kiledd ommggg!!
And the next time you eat think about how that food got to you, go watch some slaughter house videos on youtube or something and tell me that Bear doesnt kill humanely compared to that.
To JONNNNY : Here's your "hero" guy doing some surviving ... hehe
Watch this clip and you'll see that with all this help, any grandma or a 10 yr old can do this "survival" show...hahaha!
Pay attention to the part where he was rapelling down inside the cave...for some reason, he seems like not as "tough" as he sounds in his primetime shows...he's always had "tough" talk when he's surviving on primetime Discovery channel
ok what did you expect. that it was just bear and one camera guy and he has film that last 5 days straight. of course they have to take differnt shots and set things up because its a tv show.
First of all, the Youtube video doesn't prove anything. The person who made it has it out for Bear so, of course, he is going to try to make Bear look bad. Secondly, this whole controversy is getting very old and very stale. I can't understand why some people want to keep rehashing it.
I believe that Bear has been unfairly judged. From what I have read and heard, Bear has been a great humanitarian. He supports several charities and has donated his time to raise money for them. I'm sure he also donates money. How many of us have done either.
I just think it's a shame that this controversy will follow Bear for the rest of his life and that there are those, for whatever reason they have, will keep it alive.
