Hello! My name is Erica . I am 16 years old, and a sophomore in Rhode Island's.
My dream is to become a veterinarian. I cannot imagine myself doing anything other than being a veterinarian in the future. I'm one of those strange children who would sit in the living room watching Emergency Vets and medical shows while other kids would enjoy a nice Disney movie. Honestly, the focus of my career in high school so far has been to get the grades to make it to vet school. I have heard the sad stories of millions getting rejected time and time again and it just breaks my heart because this job, is me. I know I have the fire and the desire to get into a veterinary school, but I know the harsh reality, I most likely won't get in due to the fierce competition at vet schools. This all hit me when I found out that one of my most looked up to veterinarians, Dr. Kevin Fitzgerald of Alameda East was rejected from vet school eight times before becoming what he knew was right for him. I am absolutely prepared to go through that, and more time to become what I know I am meant to be too, a veterinarian. I just started working at my local dog and cat grooming shop to gain experience with animals for when I apply to veterinary school. I tried to get a summer job volunteering at my local veterinarian, but I am not old enough, sadly. I play girls ice hockey for my high schools varsity team, and I am very athletically gifted. I have decent grades, and have been on the honor roll every year so far, though I am not in the highest "advanced" classes in my school.
My dream school is Cornell University. My life won't be complete without that amazing school. I would really love to talk to someone in person or by phone , but all I keep getting is automated emails to their admissions page, which I have houroughly read. I guess the reason I am posting this is to gain some hope for myself. I feel like there isn' tmuch hope for my destiny at this point because I hear so many terrible stories about rejections, and it being the hardest field of study to gain access too. I know I would, and will succeed in that career with flying colors. Now all I have to do is get into a veterinary school, whitch I will do, I promise myself that.
Does anyone have any stories they can share about their vet school experiance, or anything they can tell me for some inspiration and hope for the future? What should I be doing at this point?
