Registered: 04-21-08 | I just recvd an email from my g-ma that says if you place a dryer sheet in your pocket it will keep the mosquitos away...maybe the mbusters should do an episode dedicated to keeping the bugs at bay...unless they already have. =) |

Re: mosquitos oil on the skin, any oil wil prevent mosquitos biting. They still land, but won't bite. i've heard that the oil clogs their "straw" It's kind of amusing to watch them land, take off, land in a different spot, etc without finding a patch of oil free skin. I recomend olive oil. It doesnt go rancid as easily as some oils. I've heard that "skin so soft" works.
I don't know if this would work in the ravenous clouds of mosquitos in Alaska. Anyone there tried this?

Registered: 08-25-08 | I have allergic reactions and swell up ridiculously bad when bitten by mosquitoes - which is unfortunate since I live in Texas where they LOVE the heat. I've heard so many wives tales on different "natural remedies" for mosquito repellents so that users can avoid using deet filled products all the time. I've heard any and all of the following are possible repellents: dryer sheets, catnip, marigolds, beautyberries, garlic pills, citonella, and different oils (clove, peppermint, rosemary, lemongrass, castor, cedar, etc.) I would love to know which of these are actually effective at repelling mosquitoes. Anybody have any personal accounts based on experience? |

Registered: 06-02-11 | I read about dryer sheets yesterday and tried them - I rubbed one all over my skin, and kept one in my shoe, and one near the book I was reading - and it worked! A couple even hovered around but they would not land! It was really amazing. I used Sun cheap brand. I looked up home solutions online cause I kept getting bit up outside but wanted to cook outside - and the sprays don't seem to work over the last couple years, and everything is soooo expensive...hoping this will be a nice cheap solution! I'm a terrible itcher, and if I get one I scratch it to death until it the skin really opens and then it leaves a scar. I don't have sensitive skin, so the dryer sheets didn't bother me. People who have sensitive skin might have issues. I'm white, don't sweat much, but get bit up a lot. My daughter is black, and tends to sweat more (is more active), and I'm going to see how this works with her. Her skin is more sensitive to soaps. I live in TN in a rural area and there's always mosquitoes. It's always a shame cause the kids have to come in from playing cause the mosquitoes get too bad. Hope this is the answer and I didn't just get a flukey lucky day! |
