i know that on WNTW they say to find a pair of strait legged pants. But i have really thick thighs and I am 5 feet 7 inches tall and about a size 9. what is a good, inexpensive store to find pants for thicker and taller women?

No matter WHAT size I've been, I've ALWAYS had thick thighs. I think the most flattering look is to choose pants that have a generous draped thigh cut. When you buy them, make sure to do the sit/squat test. Some pants that look good while you are standing pull in an unattractive way when you bend.

I'd also suggest keeping the rise of the pants at your natural waist. I've seen soooo many women with ample thighs try and do low waisted pants. The proportion never looks good. I'd suggest staying away from tapered pants as well.

Some brands that are kind to thighs:

Faded Glory, Lee Relaxed Fit, GAP Loose Fit, Valerie Stevens, and J-Lo.

VERY bad for bigger thighs: Hunt Club, Vanderbilt, Liz Claireborne (< OK Thighs- smaller waist)

I can SO relate to this topic! It doesn't matter what I weigh, it always seems that my thighs are huge. And, of course, my waist is small compared to my thighs so finding pants that fit in the seat and thighs that don't have an extra 6" in the waist is really tough.

I also have had luck with the Lee Relaxed Fit pants. They do fit me well, but the issue I have had is that the pockets are a bit bulky so I have a hard time getting a nice, clean line. The pockets can probably be removed by someone who can do alterations but I've never done that. The fabric also seems to fade quickly. They look good at first but after a few washings they start to look worn out. I haven't tried the others pix610 suggested, but I'm going to add them to my list.

For dressier pants, I've bought several pairs of JCPenney's slacks in their Worthington line. They have one cut called "Katherine" fit that zips up the side and these seem to fit me well. The quality is just OK. I've been in a mode of losing weight so I haven't wanted to invest in any higher end pants, so I've worn alot of these, have had good luck, and do get alot of compliments when I wear them. When I get to my goal weight, I'll probably start migrating towards some higher end pants but these have served me well. Then I get to start searching all over again... no idea where to start looking for better pants that will fit my body type.

I've had good luck with New York & Co. "Madison" trousers and Old Navy lower rise bootcut jeans.

I lift weights and ride horses...so my thighs will always be a bit bigger than most. LOL

I've always had larger thighs and a larger rear-end, but my waist is smaller. So, I always end up wearing size 16 pants on a size 14 waist. I wear out belts quickly because of the difference...

What I have found lately that looks great is The Gap's Long and Lean jean. Don't let the name fool you - they look awesome! They are looser in the thigh and flare out slightly at the bottom. And they are not horribly low cut as most stores sell these days. Last week, due to laundry day, I wore my old boot-cut jeans and I was so embarassed! I have no idea what I was thinking when I initially bought those. They looked awful! I will always get the long and lean from now on.

Have you tried the new Wrangler line "Aura"? They come in 3 rises, 4 lengths, and are straight leg. Also a bit looser in the thigh.

Be advised, they are sized so you buy a smaller size than usual (so you feel better?)...I can fit in a size 6 (and I'm ususally a 10).

maggynolia, one of the ways to keep clothes from fading in the wash is to wash them in the coldest temp that will get them clean AND add a 1/2 cup of distilled white vinegar to the wash cycle.

That also works to make clothes smell fresh.

Someone also told me to line dry the clothes the first time you wash them...using cold temp & vinegar. It helps 'seal' the dye.

I too have been plaqued by the thick thigh problem. I recently found Old Navy relaxed jeans at waist were a flattering fit. My daughter didn't recognize me in the store she thought it was a slender lady on the aisle. I wear a size 12 and am only 5'3". Briggs slacks seem to have a nice full fit but sometimes are more high waisted than I would prefer.
