I love What Not To Wear. It's a fun show with great hosts and it shows me what women go through. My wife often tells me that she isn't happy with her clothes. She grew up tomboy and cleans up real nice.

Our 20th anniversary is coming up. I would like to buy my wife the services of a clothing stylist. I am looking to give my wife the WNTW experience: Someone who will look at what she already has and point out the problems and help her identify some new clothes/colors/fabrics/cosmetics. We live near San Jose, California.

Do you know anyone that does that kind of service?

East Bay girl here -- I don't know anybody personally who I can recommend. But there seem to be many who have advertised online.

The best mall I know of down there is the Valley Fair Mall. You could contact their concierge service to find out about any personal shoppers, or to find out if any department stores offer this service (some of the higher end ones may do so).

I love this idea, particularly if you can find someone who is also willing to go through her closets to figure out what she already has that's worth keeping (and combining into new outfits with purchases made later that day...). I'm not sure how much this could all cost, but it definitely sounds like fun (something I might like to do myself someday). What a sweetie you are!

Hi, Frank! I can't make suggestions on stylists on your area however Nordstrom has stylists working on their departments.
Last year my husband gave me a major "wardrobe overhaul" gift for my birthday and the young woman at Nordstrom pointed me to things I never would have considered had she not brought them into the fitting room (based on my shape/colors) and she was so good, not only did she revolutionize it by having me wear new things that i now love and pointing me at a new style, but the effect is still there as it trained my eye to new things that are flattering. it taught me you have to walk in with an open mind instead of thinking "nothing new for me to learn". trying is how you find out. one of my mottos became "if it looks good on me it must be my style" ;p (rather than the other way around) Smile Encourage her to try what is given her and THEN make up her mind. If she doesn't she may miss out on a new great revelation.
it was the best day of my retail life! Wink
As far as the makeup goes, MAC makeup girls are amazing with knowledge as well. she can go and tell them what vibe she's going for, or ask for a look for daytime and nighttime. make an appo. for this so they can have someone waiting for you to teach her new looks/colors and leave the rest to them. Nordstrom also has MAC so you can have 2 out of the 3 services you're proposing in one place. I think it's marvelous you're doing this for your wife, she will remember it for the rest of her life! Aww...
Have a lovely day!

Hi Moonlady and Ilibaby: Thank you for the replies. You are both sweethearts for your comments and encouragement. I'll give the concierge service a call to find out about personal shoppers. I totally get what you are saying about Nordstrom. I love the service they offer. I'll try to post something here letting you know how it went. Thanks! -Frank
