oooh, how sweet of you, halfpint! its my first teal *anything*. i saw it and the color was so unusual i just made a beeline to it. jcrew may sway me for a while. the blouse is roomy enough for things to er, um fit while still fitted on the torso, 2 must-haves for me! the skirt has stretch so i can move with it. is it fall yet? ;p

Great new hair Ilibaby!! I like the new outfit. Is the skirt denim? If so, you said it was stretch. Is it a pretty lighweight denim? Umm...ah...what's the white knob on your waist?!
I live where the four season have pretty defined start dates. Fall starts Tuesday here! Even though WNTW says you can wear white shoes after Labour Day, it doesn't happen here. Pretty much no white pants, jackets, skirts, shoes, anywhere here after Labour Day. I plan on wearing white all weekend!

I got up late today (menopause interfering with my sleep), and my dressy jeans seemed the easiest choice for Friday. I threw on a knit top that I knew I hadn't worn lately. When I looked in the mirror, it wasn't great but I thought that under the circumstances, it was lucky I could get dressed at all. Then I stopped and thought, I can do better. I took off the top and browsed my closet until I found a yellow/white/grey print blouse that goes perfectly with the jeans because they have a dark grey wash, and a light jacket that looks like it was made for the blouse. What I started with was a pair of jeans and top that went together. What I left with was a coordinated outfit that looked deliberate, and it only took a couple of minutes more. I would have felt underdressed all day, and instead feel great. My sister was visiting recently and commented, "Wow, you really are working the style thing every day." It caught me off guard because it has become automatic and fairly easy. I don't have any cr@p in my wardrobe, the pieces I own fit and flatter, I know how to put things together for my shape and proportion. Not everything sings, but I'm working on it.

I'm going to have to get a full-length mirror so I can play too!
I may try to take a picture using the mirror on my dresser in my room, although you'll have to take my word for it about what shoes I'm wearing.

Thanks Siepress! I felt good all day in that outfit ProudMary, while a full-length mirror is a necessity for me, you don't really need one! Do you have a timer on your camera? I usually use my camera rather than my cell phone, as the pictures turn out better.

I didn't think my camera had a self-timer, but just for kicks I checked the settings menu and sure enough, it does! I hope to have a picture of what I'm wearing up soon!

My outfit today: black wash jeans, a gray and white zebra tank layered over a slightly longer solid gray tank, teal green swing jacket, and black sandals. For accessories: wide silver bangle, silver watch paired with thin strand silver bracelet, one silver ring made up of four circles (hard to explain), one silver and onyx ring, tear-drop shaped onyx pendant on a long silver chain.

Mary, it is a cute yet work appropriate outfit. I like every one of your pieces and would like to know which brands they are? But your suit looks too big on you, perhaps like many of us you have been losing weight?

OK, I've never contributed to this thread, so here goes: This is what I wore today. I know, I'm breaking the "pear shape" rule by wearing lighter colors on the bottom than on the top, but there's a special significance to this outfit - It's the one I wore 4 years ago today when I met my boyfriend! I updated it by adding the bolero/shrug over the top (hence the extra width), a belt, and patent leather shoes. And since it was rainy and yukky out today I wore hose for the first time in months. Hereis a closer up view so you can see the print on the skirt. I have to say that this is one of my older outfits that doesn't seem to go out of style. I'm just thrilled to death to be able to fit into it again after a couple of years of being too big for it!

The top is basically this one: http://www5.jcpenney.com/jcp/X6.aspx?DeptID=50434&CatID...Id=50434|53651|53654The pants are George brand from Walmart. The shoes are here: http://www.target.com/Isaac-Mizrahi-Target-Chris-Pumps/...mbrowse=1&rh=&page=1And the suit jacket which is Apostrophe brand from KMart) is too big for two reasons: My mom saw it in the store and bought it to give to me; and I am actually a size or two bigger on the bottom than the top - so to get a jacket to fit around my hips it is too big everywhere else. I'm working on that, but it's not going well.

Mary, thanks for posting the links. It's nice to see options at affordable price points. If you can't get a jacket to fit everywhere off the rack, well that's what tailors are for..you look much smaller and younger without the jacket on! If it is acceptable in your workplace, you might try more cardigans instead of jackets, as cardis will stretch more to accommodate your larger parts. That blouse is a good shape for gals with hips. I see the pumps also come in red or gray, which would work with that outfit, too. Those pants might be a bit short for that height of heel, however.

I would love to have a pair of SIMILAR pumps in red. Unfortunately the Isaac Mizrahi pumps aren't very comfortable.
I do wear more cardigans than jackets, and if I lose a pant size (or two) I could get by with a smaller jacket that would look better without needing altering.
You're welcome for the links. Not only am I the ultimate cheapskate, I live in an area without many higher-end stores and refuse to pay shipping to order something online just to pay again to send it back if it doesn't fit. If there's a sale somewhere, I'll usually find it!

I think if the skirt would have been a solid instead of a print you would have looked out of proportion. Because the skirt has a pattern that includes darker colors it works perfectly. The belt pulls it all together for a polished look. I think you look great, and congratulations on your 4-year anniversary!

ProudMary, the blouse is beautiful against your skin. It's a very flattering shape too.
ntuitive, I think you were smart to break the pear shape 'no light on bottom' rule because the outfit is great! (Plus, it seems your now boyfriend liked it so you were doing something right, right?!) I really like your hair too.

I agree ntuitive's outfit works, because all the shapes are right to flatter her figure. If the top were shorter or not tucked in, the bottom half would seem a lot bigger. The belt also makes it work, by drawing attention to the waist. Then the overall color scheme is in one family, creating elongation. However the true test is the rear view, which she hasn't shared, LOL.

LOL, you guys are great, thanks. I have never been 100% sure about that outfit. The rear view passes the mirror test through the miracle of shapewear, dieting and bike riding, hahaha. It's a stretchy skirt so if I were only a few pounds heavier it wouldn't work. I'm just at the same weight that I was four years ago when I bought it, thankfully. Perhaps next time I wear it I'll share the rear view and see what we think. The camera does add pounds so we'll see! I actually feel more confident when I wear my black trench jacket over that skirt because it covers all my "business" and actually minimizes my bottom half. If I wear that again this season I'll try to take a photo of it. Thanks again!

Mary, you look great! Those pants are a great shape for you. I second taking the jacket to a tailor, they should be able to take in the shoulders and waist for you. That's a bonus of getting a great deal on a piece, you can splurge on tailoring and make it fit you perfect! Ntuitive, I never would have known your shape by looking at the pictures, you truly look perfectly curvy! I really think the shrug helps balance the skirt. You look great and congratulations on the anniversary! My outfit isn't anything exciting today, khaki pants, Ann Taylor Loft printed cotton top in green/brown/teal print with a chocolate brown cardigan. Flatish brown shoes again because my knee still hurts. Probably the change in weather, ugg!

Vavooooom, you go, you shapely girl, you! You have lost some weight, haven't you, Siepres? You really do look marvelous! And I would soooo wear that outfit! Thanks for posting it. I think shapely women need to feel confident about showing off their curves! BTW, that skirt looks a lot like the one Clinton picked out for me.

Thanks Ntuitive and Stealthsmarts! I have definitely lost some weight, especially after I started a running program. I like the outfit because it's shapely without being skin-tight. I wore it today to exchange a pair of jeans that didn't work out. Ilibaby taught me to always dress up when I go shopping and only take something home if it is better than/as good as what I have on. Since then, I tend to dress up a little more, and it really does work!
This was my first experiment with a wide-belt too, and I love it!!! The skirt is from Banana Republic, but it is cut almost identically to two of Jcrew's skirts (one is corduroy, the other chino) in case you're interested.

Here's me today. I wore the higher heel for a staff meeting this morning and switched to the pewter D'Orsey before 10:00! I am on my feet a lot and just can't stumble around on 4" platform wedges very long. LOL

I prefer the pewter D'Orsay. More sophisticated and I think a better height for those trousers. Where did your jacket come from?

Ya, I like the pewter too. The jacket's a Tommy Hilfiger. If I remember correctly I got it at Macy's a couple of years ago.

Now I understand the first part of your screenname, kindermouse.
You're looking great! Nice variety of looks. The only thing I would suggest is different sandals/shoes with the pink dress --try something more substantial. Also the white sweater and white shoes together is a little too matchy, IMVHO.

Thanks, slealth. I just bought the shoes i showed with the brown dress and they are FAR more "sunstantial" than the white sandals. I'd wear them next time. I'm new to the whole "fashion" thing and only started playing with things since about february. SO... I'm s l o w l y building up some great pieces. Shoes and jewelry are my absolute weakest area right now.

I too like the running around outfit. I like the brown dress a lot too though. And from what I can see of your shoes they totally ROCK! I don't think I actually posted what I wore to work Friday so here's a pic: http://picasaweb.google.com/ProudMar98/WhatIMWearing#5245176725029341522The pants are the same brand and style as the ones I posted earlier in the week, just a different color.

We spent the day watching a friend's teenage son riding motocross at a dusty track. I knew all the non-competitors (men and women) would be wearing t-shirts, jeans and trainers (and I was right), but I wore a yellow print cotton shirt (Gap), brown stretch chinos (Tommy Hilfiger) and brown ankle books (2 inch heel). I felt stylish without being overdressed.

Okay, I'll try this. I was hanging out with the kids today, and we went and took a walk up in Rocky Mountain National Park. So I wore my classic Dansko clogs, my Old Navy jeans, a thin stripe fitted button down shirt by Aventura with a cranberry cami underneath. Since we went out for dinner at a local family restaurant I put on a necklace with freshwater pearls because the colors worked well with the shirt. http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y176/familialewis/140.jpg

I take it you live in Estes (or Grand Lake???) MountainMom3? Jealous! Here's my latest outfit. New shirt my mom bought me at Ann Taylor Loft. I was actually able to wear earrings too. Normally my son (also pictured) grabs them, but lately he's been doing better.

mountainmom, great fitted shirt and color combo with the cami under! The colors look beautiful against your skin! I have some tips for the jeans if your looking for them. I'd recommend a slightly darker wash with no wiskering at the upper thigh and maybe a little longer for those shoes. ellyabillion, great new shirt from your mom, that's a great color on you! Nice jeans too, are those your favorite ones from the gap?
I had team building today - painting in the morning and lawn games in the afternoon. I wore old running shoes, jeans from the donate pile (they were in the pile because they've faded too much) and a typical T-shirt that I got for free for volunteering someplace. I think these jeans may replace my "painting" jeans as I discovered this morning my painting clothes were too big!

brittnhoney- Thanks! No, the jeans are actually JeanStar I got from the Macy's petite department. My fav Gap jeans are in the wash because I sat in some toddler detritus the other day.
I've been wearing my painting clothes lately too because we're doing some bathroom remodeling. They're hideous! Enormous baggy sweats and a T, covered in paint, of course. LOL
