Kinder, all nice looks but you really should live in dresses. That red wrap dress is stunning on you. The blue reds really work well for you too. I also like the pencil very much. It does a lot for the hourglass.
just reporting in - I've been busy the last few weeks! I have been opening the pics and everyone looks amazing! (I admit that I feel like a stalker for looking at the pics and not commenting right away...) Kinder, the last three you posted are fantastic! You do both casual and dressy so well. Is that red wrap the one you got an awesome deal on at Macy's? I could be thinking of someone else...
Thanks, ladies. Brittnhoney - I got it for about $80 from Nordstroms. It's Ralph Lauren. What's funny about me and dresses... I maybe owned TWO before joining this site! Now I'm expanding and have about 8. Never knew what to look for and had such a hard time with being so short waisted, that when I'd buy one, I'd think "oh this is ok" and then hate it later cuz it really didn't fit right or look like I thought it did. Now that I know what to look for, it's great! I'm loving dresses!! But.... I love my good ol' jeans, too. lol
I hear you kinder. I wear skirts, dresses and suits to work most days but when I am relaxing and socializing, I am often in my jeans. The trick is to pick what works about the dresses and use that in your tops. You need the detail/emphasis on the waist to really take advantage of the hourglass shape. The long straight leg dark wash jean is also your friend.
I'm glad you are enjoying the dresses. I love the simplicity of a nice fitting dress. They are easy, feel nice, and look pretty.
I didn't wear this today. I bought it today and tested it out. I also tried it with peep toe blak pumps. The same store had a similar skirt in brown and white but with much wider pleats and I think I'll get it tomorrow.

kindermouse, I agree with the others, all the outfits look great although my favourite is the last one. I think that top is fantastic for your silhouette!
Cheryle, love the skirt! I went skirt shopping yesterday and more or less struck out. I did get a black one and a neutral one but I'm really wanting to get a few with a springy pattern like yours. I'll continue the hunt!! (Definitely go back and get the other one!)
shoediva, I remember when you scored that red dress! I'm glad to see it has become a wardrobe staple - those are always the best buys!
Sorry but my vote is not to keep it. Color is fabulous with your skintone, but it's too short, halter straps are too narrow for you, and it doesn't work with your ruffle wedges. I like the idea of that belt with it but belt looks a bit loose.
Well, the belt is one of those elastic ones, so it's not too loose, but maybe it's just not the right width or something. Maybe this isn't a trend I can participate in due to my height/weight/bodyshape. Darnit anyways!
shoediva, i like the maxi on you! the best scenario would be for it to be longer. (is it snug enough that you can order it one size up?) otherwise, you can still rock it with the right shoe, i'd suggest a flat gladiator-ish sandal in leather. (brown/cognac/dark peanut). add a wood cuff, your 'bumpit' hair thingy and you are GOOD to go! the maxi is elongating and fab. no more arms talk either lil' missy!
p.s. (editing) no belt on maxi! it's supposed to be floaty/goddess/like~
kinder, you look fantastic~ (you're a rare hourglass that can wear jeans and make them look good) ;p i could tell you've lost weight the past few months, congratulations on your hard work.
shoediva: the maxi looks great on you. try it with this kind of shoe since it's shorter than we'd like it to be, and if you like the trend just make sure *your next one* is longer, that's all. use this one for going around town wearing flats doing errands and the other one to wear with heels and go out to dinner with hubby, go for drinks, etc. (i have some maxis for airports, some for entertaining, etc) here are some ideas, find at whatever price point: http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/3019748?tuid=000006cb-006f-...eImg=0&tname=product
I was thinking maybe I can talk to my seamstress lady and see if she could add a ruffle at the hem like this, cuz I just can't find maxi dresses that are for taller people: http://www.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=15207&pid=585679 Of course, the challenge would be to match the fabric. Otherwise, that second pair of flats is making me drool! They are gorgeous!
Cheryl, you look so gorgeous in that skirt! You look sensational, and the new silhouette is very flattering!!
Kinder, love that red dress. Ili's right. You can rock the jeans, but also the dresses.
Shoediva, I like the maxi dress, actually. However, I don't like the belt with it. It conflicts with the vibe of the dress too much. I also think you need a flat gladiator sandal. I tried these on and found them very comfy:
Shoediva, since you seem to not like the way the dress makes your arms work (it does create quite a strong horizontal line across the top), and it is too short, I don't think you should keep it. I saw lots and lots of maxis in stores this weekend with different necklines, so my vote is for you to keep looking.
Shoediva, I just thought of this. Have you tried a tall girls store for a maxi? I know you're only a little taller than me, but the maxis for taller girls might work perfectly for you since you'll have the extra fabric to wear the dress with heels. Not to mention, you can always have the dress hemmed if it's too long. It's much harder to add on if the dress is too short.
Okay, I'm going to have to think about this. I did have another dress like this one, and I added big beads to the halter/string thing to create a thicker strap. If I keep it, I will have to wear it with flats, and I think I will add the beads so my arms/shoulders don't look so thick. I just don't know yet. I was really counting on a longer maxi, but I don't know where to find any for "talls." Does anyone know of any "tall girl" stores? I've checked the gap/oldnavy/banana republic/jcpenney/kohls cuz they usually have tall sizes, but they don't have them for any maxi dresses. I think I would need one around 65 inches from the shoulder. Any suggestions? If I find a longer one, I think I will take this one back.
shoediva, I'm not sure about the maxi but to be fair, I'm still just learning about them myself. First and foremost though, there is nothing wrong with your arms so I'd put that issue to rest and move on.
As far as the length goes, it's hard to tell really what the length is because you need to move your camera back just a bit so we can see your feet better! I'd say try it in flats. I do think the tie around your neck is a little thin but that could be easily fixed. The colour is beautiful. Seems to me, blue flatters a lot of the ladies on the board!
Today I was anxious to try my nude micro-fishnets so the outfit was built around them. The shoes were last but I think they are out of style? If someone could let me know if that's true, then I'll donate them. Siepres, I can't figure out how you've had one pair of micro-fishnets last so long. My big toe went through the net and ripped it so I guess this pair has to be trashed - on my first wearing!!

Shoediva - I was wondering about maxi dresses for tall women, as I am 5'10" and dresses are often too short for me... How tall are you?
I usually order talls at the stores you mentioned, among others. I've been having decent luck lately but I haven't tried maxi dresses yet. Have you tried New York & Company? I know they have talls, but I'm not sure about the dresses...
There ARE specialty tall stores, but I often don't think their clothes are all that stylish. Try these online stores:
Zebra, was there supposed to be a link to a photo of your outfit? Your post appears to have been edited -- maybe it got removed?
I have only one pair of black fishnets and they lasted me all winter wearing about once a week -- even with boots. I don't remember the brand though (I bought them at Winners). I almost bought the nude ones on sale at the Bay yesterday but decided to wait to hear from you. Now I might try to find a different brand.
I saw Zebra's photo, then posted a reply to Shoediva and when I went back to the page, Zebra's photo was gone. It looks like mod_ivy removed it... Are photos no longer allowed? I really don't get the big deal about posting photos of ourselves. After all, most of us don't know people's last names, where they live, or virtually ANY identifying details. What gives? I enjoy the photos and hope they will continue. I was even planning on posting some soon once I got the logistics worked out.
If there is an issue with photos, I wish they would tell us what the rules are. Maybe if you don't show your face it is ok but if you show your face, it isn't?
Hmmm....maybe my photo was like Elaine from Seinfeld's Christmas Card (accidently objectionable! LOL!!). I don't see anything hanging out though. I'll try and crop my face out and see if it works but I only successfully cropped once - and it was by accident - so there might not be a photo!
Photos are allowed but it is better not to identify too much about yourself on the net. Fully identifiable photos are likely to be removed. You are welcome to re-post in a non-identifiable manner.
I don't think I'm the only fully identifiable poster but it doesn't matter, I found a way to hide my face! (Good to know it wasn't an Elaine on Seinfeld situation!)
this is a first! how is this different from real life and someone looking at you? or magazines? or TV commercials? and why is someone arbitrarily making the decisions for us? nobody's photo has ever been taken down for showing the face. are you new?
I think it should be a personal choice. We are all adults... I like to see the face with the outfit, as it allows a better vantage point. We all have aliases, so what's the harm in people seeing our faces? Inquiring minds want to know...
Zebra, you rule-breaker you! First off, love the star. It adds so much to your outfit, lol! Seriously though, you really look fantastic I think the microfishnets look very nice on you. Mine are from Hue, and I paid $12.50 for one pair (the single most expensive pair of hosiery I have ever bought!), but they last very well. I am very, very careful about hosiery, and I have short nails so I tend to not puncture them. I have tights that have lasted 4 or 5 years, and even my sheerest of sheer hosiery is like 18 months old. My mom, however, runs through hosiery in about 4 to 5 wears if she's careful, lol. So I guess we balance each other out.
Shoediva, there is nothing wrong with your arms! I saw a maxi dress at that tall girl shop in pucci print. It doesn't give a length though. BR has this one in a tall size, but I don't know if the color would work for you:
Hey thanks for the links, ladies. The one I got is 58" from the shoulder, and that is obviously too short. I saw the BR one, but that is much fancier than I was thinking. I also looked at VS and saw a few I liked, but they don't give the length. If I don't find anything in my price range on the tall website, I think I'm just going to have to go to the nearest mall.
Zebra, your post made me laugh so hard, my husband asked me what was so funny. I was going to suggest some type of halloween mask, lol. (Can you picture zee in her cute little outfit with a batman mask, lol!)
Zebra I love the outfit. The color of the top is great on you and happens to be one of my favorite colors. I was at Polo Park on the weekend shopping for a dress for my niece and completely forgot about the tights at the Bay. I may go tomorrow to get the brown and white skirt so I'll look then.
I wore my jcrew denim skirt with a print top in cream, brown and deep aqua today. I wore brown tights with a fairly intense vine pattern and brown suede pumps. I can't wait for spring.
I don't get it, I saw this one on the "tall" website, and I like the style, but it still says it's only 58" long. http://www.tallwomensclothes.com/product/1312/37 If they are measuring from the shoulders, that's the same length as the one I bought. It just doesn't seem right. Hmmmmm....

The "don't show your face" rule reminds me of that news story about residents of a small town in Britain who ran off a Google street view car because they thought it was an invasion of privacy to take photos that show the exteriors of their houses. (Which in the US is legal, as long as you do it from public property, AND the UK is the most surveilled country.) BUT, it's their rules, and it's no biggie to block my face with the camera.....
The nude micro-fishnets that are goners after day 1 are the Hue brand. Next time I'll try the silks brand. I just did a pedicure too - I wouldn't have thought my nails were long enough to ruin the tights on day 1 but I guess they were!
shoediva, in your last post, did you mean to show a VS dress or was your VS sizing question a general question?
I really like that VS maxi shoediva! I locked a measuring tape at 43" and held it at my waist. It looks like about 1.5" - 2" would sit on the floor and I'm 5'3". I'd do some kind of measurement like that yourself before you order.
Oh you are right! Those other ones all said 38 & 39" long, so I just figured that the 43" would be plenty long. What the heck is up with that? I'm not the jolly green giant for heaven's sake!
Wow, so much to read since I have been so busy and gone for weeks. Have to catch up sometimes to read what you've all been wearing these days. Sorry couldn't comment on everyone's outfit here today. But I do have to have to say to Zee, you made me laughed so hard when I clicked on your link and my daughter was laughing out loud too when she saw your "Star" face. LOL! You are so funny!
The weather has been very warm these days like summer. I wore a black and white plaid tank top underneath and a cream light shirt over (that's what I used as a jacket in summer if needed) with my beloved black belt. The jean is wide leg. Wide leg jean
Great look Iampetite. I looked at your other thread as well and the belt with the wide pant looks very nice on you.
Today I wore the faux denim suit with a new purple knit top. The top has a sheer insert at the neck and a fine satin tie. It is more royal purple than the pic shows. Darn flash. I plan to go try on the white and brown skirt today and needed a shirt that would tuck in to test it.
Today I am wearing jeans and a sweater. The shoes weren't my first choice, but they're practical for the charity auction I am working tonight. I'll be running around for 3 hours, so no heals today.
Cheryl, love the faux denim suit. You really rock that tailored look!
Iampetite, you look awesome in your wide-leg jeans.
I'm sorry the Hue's didn't work out, Zebra. Maybe it was just a bad egg? Mine have taken several months of abuse, so I don't know what happened. But, did you at least like the look of them?
Shoediva, I know how you feel about the maxi dress. I'm a little over 5'6", and I had the same problem. Here's a thought though: Have you thought of finding a maxi skirt instead? Or do you have your heart set on a dress?
Some outfits I've either worn or just put together lately.
red/white dress. I did not wear it anywhere but was just seeing if I had any shoes that went with it. I do not. Any suggestions? Purple/green combo. Can't remember what I wore this to. Cream jeans. Took Ili's advice and paired the jeans with the lighter shirt from a different outfit and loved it. Didn't wear those shoes b/c I didn't end up liking them with it plus it was way too cold. Black shirt & jeans. Wore this to a fun event with my son. Was definitely the most dressed up person there, but was still casual and comfortable for me.
In the next few, you'll see the same scarf. I was recently fortunate to acquire a fabulous cheetah-print scarf (first animal print for me ever) and I basically want to wear it all the time. Cheetah 1 Cheetah 2 Cheetah 3. Note: the bag is very casual, but I did that on purpose. I knew I'd be the most dressed up person where I was going, even in a denim skirt, and wanted to tone it down with a casual bag. Skirt I mentioned in another thread. Not certain of length. Here is the same outfit with jacket.
