Last year I was watching WNtW and they were giving tips to this lady about buying jeans because all she was wearing before were baggy jeans (I can't recall the episode, sorry!). I would imagine there are some tips for guys wanting to buy jeans? All of my jeans don't fit me anymore since I've lost weight, (dropped two sizes, yikes!) and would like a few pair of jeans that would flatter me.

Here is some basic info: I'm fairly short @ 5'10, I'm white but lightly tanned skin (natural, I don't go to tan), brown hair, brown eyes, I'm not sure of my weight since I haven't measured it but depending on the brand I fit into men's 32 or 34, my thighs and legs are still pretty big. Which color of jeans would best suit me, I'd guess blue; does my appearance have anything to do with which color of jeans would go best on me? What I'm really confused about is what cut to get since I'm not too sure about them (hey, don't blame me, I only go out to buy jeans once a year!).

I know it's strange that a guy would be asking this but my jeans are baggy and I look like, well I won't say it. I want to look and *feel* good when I wear my jeans since I know I'll wear them often.

Thanks in advance!

J.

Edit: Maximum per pair that I'd be willing to spend is 60$ CDN.

Hello & welcome to the board!

When do you plan on wearing the jeans? for casual weekends, or for work? For work, I'd suggest dark, uniform wash, without those trendy fads like whiskers, fading at the knee, rips etc.

For weekend casual wear, any color would work, doesn't matter what your skin color is. I think it matters more with what you are pairing them with. Another thing to think about is to make sure the length is long enough to almost floor length without actually dragging on the floor. And no carpenter jeans, or baggy ones either. Checkout old navy.

Sorry I really don't know "cuts" for the men, i guess you just have to try them on and see how you look/feel in them. Good luck!

I agree with geekStyle....Dark jeans for work and anything goes for weekend/casual wear.

My husband has had good luck at Old Navy and JcPenney. He has recently purchased some Arizona jeans from JcPenney that really look good on him. Levi's are also a good brand.

Make sure they are long enough...and remember they will shrink when washed.

P.S. - you can get some good deals - the last pair my husband bought at JcPenney was on sale for $20.00. Otherwise I think they run about $42.00. Old Navy also runs some really good deals.

I love Levi's. My fiance wears them exclusively. I've been trying to wash out his old 509s, but they're practically indestructible!!! I wish he would wear THESE more often. He's 6'4, 180, skinny but muscular, and these jeans (559 relaxed fit straight leg) really flatter his shape. The link also includes a video of how to dress them up a bit. I would go for "Tumble Rigid" for your dark wash and the "Indie Blue" for your weekend wash.

I like these jeans because they don't taper at the ankle, nor do they fit so closely that it looks like you're wearing a scuba suit. Very flattering and forgiving cut.

Of the Old Navy jeans, I like these best. You'd have to see how they look and fit on you, though. I haven't had personal experience with Old Navy jeans. I like all the washes except for the light and black.

The best part is that both Levi's and ON are on sale right now for under $30 a pair. Smile

From a woman's perspective, I'd like to suggest that you look in a 3-way mirror when trying on and make sure they fit your backside! Nothing worse that saggy, baggy there...

If you are >25 years-old, I would recommend avoiding bootcut or distressed washes. Pre-distressed can appear attractive, but they usually retail at a higher retail price point than stated in the original post (see Earnest Sewn or Ralph Lauren).

As others previously replied, dark wash, straight leg is your best bet. Avoid skinny cuts if you have big legs and thighs (think popsicle). Levi's are a good starting point.
