Have you tried pairing it with a deep, jewel purple? I'd add either a jewel purple button-down or sweater, gray tights and black shoes. I like high-heeled mary janes. Maybe a flower pin, or a multi-strand necklace.
Black, white and gray would also go very well on top. Something studded would add edge. If you wore gray on top and black tights & shoes on the bottom, it would showcase the skirt as a great statement piece.
I love playing with my tweed pencil skirt. I have this J.Crew site bookmarked, and I love trying to re-create the looks.
Have fun playing with this one. I think you can do a lot with it.
The skirt is bright, and an interesting texture. As LC notes, the new look for skirts is to highlight them; they are not just neutral support pieces for the tops. Many colors will work.
Remember that the skirt should fit properly: if worn long, it must be narrow; tight. If it's wide, it should be short: above the knee.
Also, a monochrome black leg will support just about any skirt this season, so you can wear black tights&shoes and a white ruffled shirt, for an easy outfit. Add a few mixed media chains.
