I'm finding it's easier to skid/slide nowadays as more surfaces are tiles (vs. carpet). I remember long ago I used to have these pads that I just peel and stick to the soles. Last time I tried to look for these pads in the supermarket (not too thoroughly) I didn't find any. Is this still the best way to prevent skidding?
If you can't find the pads, try duct tape or gaffer tape - available in hardware stores. You can get in lots of colours to match the soles of your shoes. Just cut a piece roughly the same size; press it to the sole; and then trim it to the edges.
Duct tape and gaffer tape is what the film/TV industry uses to prevent people from slipping on set.
I have used masking tape on the botton of slick shoes before and it really does work. You can also take course grained sand paper and rough up the bottom of your shoes.
