Hey all -- I am an avid reader here though I don't participate all that much. I have gone through any other cruise threads first to get some ideas but I'm starting a fresh one..
I'm going on my first cruise in a few weeks, a "Rick Springfield" Carnival Cruise (idol from my youth! ) ... I am a youthful 42 who likes to follow the trends. Most of my casual outfits for going out entail dark wash bootcut or straight leg jeans, flats or heels, embellished tops, belts, necklaces sort of thing. I live in Canada so "hot n'humid" is pretty foreign to me!
I have a couple of cute sundresses, a nice formal dress, and several nicer-fabric tanks and a great black casual skirt to wear, gold flat glad sandals and a host of shoes, but my big problem is BOTTOMS for the cruise! As I am only 5' tall, a size 10 and a bit hippy and broad in the beam (that means butt to you young'uns)... I don't know what to do about capris -- yes or no? Skirts instead? And what weight fabric? I want some casual ideas that won't be too cooking hot (temp wise, not awesome-wise ) on the cruise. I am told I could get away with jeans and heels perhaps at the night concerts but jeans would be too hot otherwise?
Any outfit links or shopping links with ideas what to wear for a cruise would be so much appreciated. I like to stay on trend, I dress and act a bit younger than I am... I find my height is often a challenge so I am taking a bunch of things to a tailor next week. But it is the bottoms that are bugging me... ultimately I would love to have great pair of lightweight denim capris or a cool swingy skirt that is not in a heavy fabric that would not emphasize my hips and bootay.
Shorts are out of the question for me unless they hit just above the knee (city shorts for a petite?? Is that wrong or not??) ... I don't like the idea of shorts on somebody my age and anyway I have "hail damage" I'm not particularly eager to show off to the dude that sang Jessie's Girl!
Any and all cruise wear help and advice is appreciated!
Hi -- welcome to the boards. I've cruised to Cozumel twice, and you will see EVERYTHING on the cruise! I've always worn a skirt or dress to the shows, but that's what I usually wear anyway. We usually have the late seating dinner, so our show is pretty late, and no kidding, you will see people there in pajama pants! I usually carry a wrap with me because the theater can be a little chilly. My husband and I like to dress for the formal night(s), but so many people don't. You will see jeans even on that night. On the excursions, you will need to dress appropriately for the activity. On deck, jeans might be a little warm, but capris or a lightweight skirt would be fine -- I don't wear shorts either. I hope you have a wonderful time. Cruises are so much fun, but to have "Dr. Noah Drake" aboard -- so much better! Bon voyage!
Ohhh, we honeymooned in Cozumel, and it was divine! Granted, this was nearly 10 years ago, but I mostly wore long broomstick-type skirts and tank tops. It gets a bit chilly at night, so a cardigan was handy for evening.
If I were going back today, I'd wear maxi dresses, bermuda-length shorts (I'm a petite too), and my white jeans. Since you sound like you're pear-shaped, I'd skip the white jeans.
The ocean breezes keep the island a nice temperature. We did an excursion over to the mainland, and it was HOT, even with shorts and a tank top.
What you wear on the ship is entirely up to you. As posted above, you will see everything from working-in-the-yard clothes to people who look uncomforable because they are too dressed up all the time and look like they are not relaxing and enjoying the experience. Yes, even pajamas at the evening show - that sounds dressy but it's not unless you want it to be.
I was in Cozumel in April and it was HOT! What you wear will depend on what you will be doing that day. If you are taking an excursion that involves 4X4's, jeeps, boats, etc., I would recommend shorts (knee length) because those trips can be strenuous. We went on a jeep excursion once and ended up stuck in the mud and then changing jeeps three times because of breakdowns and flat tires - but it was lots of fun. Last April we took a taxi to a beach, so we wore bathing suits under cover-ups. This is a fantastic website about the beaches on Cozumel. We went to Paradise Beach where there is one of the recommended ladies clothing stores - open air, no wall, doors, or windows. Super!
Hey there, I have been on a few cruises in the warm weather and what I found the easiest to bring is sundresses. You can wear them during the day and then dress them up at night if you like also. they go well over beach attire and you can wear them on the ship. Now is the ideal time to find them on clearance also. Target has a ton on clearance! target
