Hi everyone! I've been lurking here for more than a year now, and I finally decided to join and post a question. I'm in middle school (I can't give out my age) and I live in the pacific northwest. I need a coat for everyday use in the fall/winter. It should preferably be under $80.
Oh also i know you all often ask people about their body types so I'm 5'3 about 95 lbs and not curvy.

Have you checked out Old Navy? They have some coats that are wool or wool blend that are under $80. You probably want something that defines the waist and is warm enough (has wool) for the PNW.
-Funnel-Neck Coat
-Swing coat
-Wool Blend Belted Coat

I really like those, especially the pink one, but I was wondering: would those would be okay in the rain? Sorry if that's a stupid question!

I don't drive so I'm out in the weather. A wool coat won't be hurt by the rain but you'll need a good, large umbrella to keep it from getting sodden and unpleasant to wear/put back on. They
don't dry fast. In a driving rain, even the umbrella doesn't help much. And kids your age might not usually carry umbrellas.

I had a coat much like that pink one when I was
a few years older than you and I loved it.

That's what I was worried about, but I haven't seen any coats that aren't wool, but would be warm enough and stylish enough for me.

My advice is if you live in the PNW where it rains a lot, you need to get used to carrying a good umbrella. (The Gustbuster comes recommended, but may be a little pricey.) Jackets that are made of patent leather or plastic-like materials might be water repellant, but then to make them warm enough you'd have to layer a lot or get a puffer-type jacket, which doesn't have the most appealing shape. Maybe look into something with a hood - but really, you need to carry an umbrella if it's rainy.

For your age range:

I have a double canopy totes umbrella from Walmart for $12. Comes with a lifetime warranty.
Works really well but even my son and husband complain a bit that it's heavy.

Oooh, cute! I hope it works for you IRL. Let us know how it goes. Kudos for going with a bold color, too. Wink

As an aside, it's nice that delias.com is offering coats with Thinsulate in such fun colors. I get coats from JCrew but their options with the Thinsulate are a bit limited. It's refreshing to have alternative options with Delias (even though I'm probably way too old for their demographic).

PS Did you get the free shipping?
