I am going to be puttering around the house all day, so grubbies while I clean the garage and office and run things to Goodwill.

In the evening, I am going to the concert and fireworks with friends, and plan on dark wash jeans, a navy T with a bedazzled American flag on the chest, red, white and blue star earrings and Skechers. We are taking a picnic supper--wine coolers in a thermos, chilled shrimp, deviled eggs, sour dough bread and herb butter, fruit salad (blueberries, starwberries and pineapple tidbits), and M&M brownies.

Since I'm hoping to get some house/yard projects done, I'll probably be in grundgeware most of the day.

Well, since I work that day until almost sunset I will be in my lovely (not) Disneyland costume. Hooray for me!!! Lol, really tho polyester in summer? Blech. After that will be doing the family thing with bbq (they better save me some) and fireworks (there legal here) since I will be home in plenty of time for them. Which is good b/c trying to drive through my neighborhood on the 4th is pretty treacherous. I am not sure what I am wearing for that yet tho. Maybe a cute dress of mine might be in order.

Well, I am not dressing up for any reason on the 4th. I will be in NYC and I will be taking my crop jean shorts and brown leather gladiator sandals, which I am pairing with a white peasant top.

The 3rd is the date I am going to le Bernardin and wearing my black and cream Jones NY flutter sleeve dress with a pair of red patent peep toe sling back flats. I have just the "Simply Vera" Vera Wang tote bag to pair with it, but as of yet no issue of "The New Yorker". Must remind myself to go swipe one from the waiting area in the legal dept. at work, LOL. oh man, you touch this shoelover's heart when you say that! thanks, tc!

i tell you what, coming from a place of overlooking/wearing neutral wnwt shoes with everything to realizing they'll make or break an outfit was a long road to that aha! moment. it's never to late to become a shoe person.

Ili- Are the red ones Jessica Simpsons? There's an identical, but nude-colored, pair of Jessica's at Marshall's that has really been calling me over the last several weeks. I just love the stacked heel and platform, and the shape of the heel.

They're really high, though, and I don't know if I could actually wear them, so I almost keep hoping they're gone when I go in, but then there they are! Hmmm...

hi, butterflyginger! Smile
have you tried them on? could you walk on them? i find jessica simpson shoes very well padded and comfy (at least to my foot)! ;p i wear mine at airports, they are that comfy. when i was 50 lbs overweight i couldn't do a kittenheel, let alone a high heel.
like everything else, one can train a foot! Wink 15 minutes at a time, for example, but only if the shoe is comfy. if it isn't...pass it on. sometimes you can see/feel the difference between "getting used to" or "uncomfortable/no way".

the red ones are steve madden, i bought them...2 autumns ago.
the blue ones are linea paolo. also comfy line.

how do they look on you? do they rock? not all shoes are for walking endlessly, either you know! ;p some are for dinner...entertaining...

Oh, so now my feet need training? LOL!!

I'll give them another try next time I go if they're still there. I can do 3 1/2" heels if they're nice and stable. I had an unpleasant experience with pointy heels and a loopy carpet covering a dais in a lecture auditorium, need I say more...

But, yes, these shoes don't look like shoes for doing a lot of walking, and definitely not for wearing to work! I thought of you and siepres and the whole "Heels!" thread when I saw them.

LOL oh man, did that sound wrong? i mean that I HAD to train mine, i couldn't wear a 2 in. that's not how i meant it, i'm sorry! Frown it was also an encouragement to anyone who may think "oh it's too late for me now!". i was 39-40 at the time.

i suppose the "gut reaction" to whether you should get it or not will give you the answer, butterfly gingergirl. is there a place for them in your wardrobe? will there be times when they'll be great?
will you be disappointed when you go next time if they're missing?

hey, last year i twisted my ankle *while walking down the street in my running shoes*. yea, that was embarrassing to explain. it was funny, because *everyone who knows me* assumed i was wearing heels when it happened. uh, no...i was looking behind me to a fast approaching car in a narrow street and there was a pothole on the road. i fell like a banana from a tree and it took me 3 months before i could wear heels again and i couldn't run, only walk, for more than a month and a half. MISERY! so i understand your hesitation. if you're worried, don't risk it, although any shoe with some kind of platform and heel chunkier than a stiletto is wearable if you're used to heels. you will not catch me on ANY delicate heel. i think shoes are made better now, since the women are not saving heels for " a special ocassion" any more and are being worn for life in general too.

Love this wolfw! That's the true spirit of the 4th of July. We wouldn't be living here if it weren't for our troops, then and now.

We'll be going to a parade in the morning, and then to a cookout at friends in the evening. So some type of red top and shorts, comfortable sandals, as there will be alot of walking all day. It is supposed to rain here tomorrow, but firworks at night if it doesn't...jeans for that.

Ili- I thought it was really funny! (I'm sorry the little smily emoticons don't seem to be working lately for me.) I'd never thought about high-heel "training", but it makes sense. Maybe I'll have to start a regimen!

The idea of taping thank yous to our troops is one of the best ideas ive heard in a long time!I think im going to ask my church group to consider doing this as a long term project sending tapes, notes and cards to re-assure, thank and inspire our troops fpr all they do ...I get many great ideas from the people on this forum!Happy 4th!

I'm going to hand out costume awards at a 4th of July parade/ picnic.

Last year, the Grand Prize Winner was a young girl dressed as the Statue of Liberty, who was pushing a cart full of tiny children dressed in the traditional costumes of all immigrant nations. Some of the bigger kids were walking all around her. Lederhosen, Serapes, Saris, Babushkas, etc. Honestly, I cried.

When I asked the Mom who had set this up how long it took her, she said 3 months, full time, with the help of the other Moms of the kids.

I have a jacket that's made in an American flag
pattern, and I only wear it for such events. White shirt and white jeans under. Maybe red shoes, I'll see how I feel.

Strike Up the Band!

We are going to a July 4th party at the home of the American Consul here. (We live in Mexico.) Since we are Canadian, and our big national holiday was July 1st, I'm going to wear a red and white skirt and either a red tank top or white tshirt, depending on how hot it is. Shoes will be either red or pewter. Our nations' colours are similar - we are red and white, and America adds the blue, so I think this is appropriate. What do you think? I want to give a nod to my own country, yet I think the colours work for America too.

Jodanne, sounds smashing! Have a great time.

(BTW, the last time I was at an American Consul for the Fourth (OK, it was in France) it was fairly dressy, so be flexible.)

Yes, but as they say, TIM (this is Mexico). Its a barbecue and a fundraiser for a library. I'm told it will be casual. I can add accessories to help dress it up. Its so hot and the party is outdoors, but I will call some friends to confirm the dress for the event. Thanks, Pres.

I was sitting her thinking I had nothing patriotic to wear and then I remember that I have a blue skirt and a red top. The top is a little low cut so I could wear a simple white cami underneath.
I wish y'all could see the shirt my husband has. It's a polo shirt with a huge flag/eagle design. It's really over the top.

Ili, its the hair that will be my downfall. I got it cut and coloured yesterday and I need some deep conditioning I think, because it feels coarse and frizzy. Its the humidity - its terrible. We had a monsoon yesterday (I'm not kidding) and the humidity is still really high. DH was at the grocery store and the storm knocked the power out briefly. When he left for home, he saw a pickup truck on the street and the water was over top of the door jamb.

I can polish up the outfit with shoes and jewellry, but the hair! Oy!
