I bought two ofthese super-cute jersey dresses at Old Navy on clearance for $3.99 each in Canada... one blue, one brown.

It's a no-brainer how to wear them for summer, with a pair of glads and maybe a belt. But what about winter? They seem to have come out for fall (they were not summer stock dresses)... I am 5' tall and the length on these is great, right above knee on me.

What should I put on legs/feet? Stacey already Twittered back to me the other day that high boots don't work on petites. So what height of boot might work ... what heel? (links appreciated!), or other type of shoe, and since I'm in cold climes, what about tights? If so, what colour?? I have not worn tights since I was a little kid, but they seem to be the thing to do these days...keep in mind I am youthful 42!

It looks very Summery. So I'd say if you're going to get away with it in Winter, then you definitely need tights. I think low wedgeswould look good, but that might not be practical in a place where there's going to be lumpy re-frozen snow and ice on the ground for a long time. I don't think a sweater is going to look good over it because the sleeves are short and puffy - so you'll look lumpy under the sweater. You might need some sort of sleek, long sleeved shirt to wear underneath. I always see women wearing sleek, long sleeved under layers, but I can never figure out where they get them. I just realized I'm not being very helpful and I'm wandering off topic - but those are my ideas, I'll step out now.

liphysicist- I got my layering tees from Target. Kohls also has some, but they shrink an unreasonable amount.

I'm not one to directly contradict Stacy, but I don't think you HAVE to steer clear from boots as a petite. I think a lot depends on body type and proportionality. I am also a petite, and I have a inverted triangle/coronet/vase body type, and I can get away with boots that come just below the knee. The key is to wear similar colored tights/pants to the boot so your leg line isn't broken up. I like gray with navy, so gray tights with gray suede boots would look super cute. I think a cardigan would look fine with the dress. I have several short-sleeved knit shirts with ruffles or a puff sleeve that I wear with a cardigan, and I don't think it looks inordinately lumpy. Could you link to the Stacy quote about high boots? Are you saying that petites shouldn't wear boots to the knee, or with high heels? I'm petite (under 5 feet) and have never heard of either rule.

i'm short and i love the tall boot legline on me. (you just can't wear it with capris/gauchos).
that said the dress is short sleeve, empire waist and cotton~ none say 'fall/winter', so i would hold off and wear it with the right supporting cast when weather/season is appropiate enough. wearing a summer dress in cold weather is wntw.
