Hi! I am finishing up getting my Realtor's license in Las Vegas, NV. I am a cowgirl and never have really had to dress up for work, working in a construction office for the past 3 years. I'm 23 yrs old and I need to get a new wardrobe for when I am meeting with clients and at the office. I don't want to be too fancy, I think a few pairs of nice jeans would be ok. But I want to be in style and also be comfortable. I need help. What should I look for in basics? I have many many stores available to me in Las Vegas. I just want to be organized and have outifits, not just clothes. Any ideas pleas help me!
as a realtor, you may want to dress a bit more formal than jeans. I think suit separates, dresses, or even dress slacks would work better. You want to look sophisticated, put together to give you credibility (not just hey i'm a girl that just graduated). Go to jcrew's website, go do 'wear for work' section, and get ideas from there. Go to some realtor offices, and see how the ladies dress there.
Search "pres method" on this forum. Basically, find one perfect outfit at a time, the take one piece from there, and make another outfit by pairing with another piece.
I agree with geekStyle, it's always better to dress up a little more when in doubt to the dress code! I recently got these pant's from J. Crew for a business trip. I LOVED them and they're SUPER easy to dress up and down! J. Crew in general is a good bet for busines/business casual. Also try What2WearWhere'sWorkplace section. As always they're great at breaking things down for even the most fashion-disabled! Good luck on your new career BTW!
I think that it really depends on your clientele. Are you selling in the city itself, or in the surrounding communities? Are you catering to the multi-million dollar houses or will you be mostly selling to people in the 300,000 and lower range? In the really high end market people are going to expect the suits or skirt ensembles. However, if most of your clients are younger people or middle class people with families, jeans are perfectly appropriate. They will make you look more approachable and down-to-earth as long as you make the rest of your outfit professional. I was thinking a pair of trouser jeans or bootcut jeans in a a dark wash. Pair it with a nice blouse and a fitted jacket and some accessories. You can even stick to your roots and pair it with some cowboy boots. They are practical for showing someone a property and people will appreciate the personality.
I suggest suit seperates as well; basically matching with your clientele. Ann Taylor Loft and INC at Macy's are great places to find suit seperates with a more youthful feel to them. Good Luck!
