I want to throw this out for discussion. I haven't even thought it out completely. There are members here who are Team Matt and members who are Team Amy. The Roloffs are very different and I wonder if it has to do with their birth family situation.
Matt was born in a family with 3 sons and a daughter. His brother Sam has the same condition as Matt.(diastrophic dysplasia) His other brother had a congenital heart condition and died young. On the show his parents seem to be kind, loving and supportive.
Amy Knight Roloff was the only child in her family with a disability. I know she has several siblings. I found her dad to be abrasive and rude.
How has this contributed to their personalities? Matt is so eager to grasp any adventure and senses how fleeting his life is. Amy seems to worry a lot and wants her children to be carefree.
Is anyone else interested? I know we can't analyze them but it is fascinating.

I think you are talking nature/nurture. The scientists are still out on the percentages of influence both have. My friend's nine grown children will tell you about their family--and each story is different. You'd never know they grew up in the same household. Same with my brother and sister--each had a different experience but we were raised in the same way except that with each child, the rules relaxed a bit. My experience as the oldest is quite different from my sister, the baby, and very different from my brother who was in the middle. It's an interesting subject.

I agree that they came from very different families. But the "why" they have different views on life doesn't really matter alot. The important question is "will they get it together". They are obviously butting heads and it doesn't look good. They need a serious meeting of the minds. Amy is teaching Zach and Jake to be disrespectful to their dad. It's wrong all the way around. It's an awful thing to teach your children. My husband and I don't always agree but we never let our 4 kids disrespect each other. Wake up Amy!
