hello, my name is sandi and at present my wonderful father is going through hormone treatments for prostate cancer. he lives in tallahassee florida and has tried to obtain as much information as possible about this diagnosis, and i know being "lay people" that not many doctors will discuss the options available without seeing the patient, however when he tries to call on such notable institutions as md anderson in houston and various others, not only is he rebuked for being so bold to place these calls he is treated so rudely that he hangs up in utter disgust. a cancer diagnosis is a scary enough situation, however some in the medical profession not only will not take the time to properly inform their patients, but do not make the effort to educate them with all options for their well being, whether medical or spiritual. i wish the medical community would wake up, but we are at their mercy aren't we......it's a shame that some times we must reduce ourselves to yelling and/or coming down to their lack of concern and demanding the rightful attention we all deserve.but then i suppose i'm alittle close to the situation, and if i had to be my father's voice the halls of every hospital he enters would never be the same again, nor the doctor's he has dealt with thus far!!!!!!! MAKE NOISE, DO NOT SETTLE FOR THE STATUS QUO, WE ALL DESERVE BETTER, DEMAND ALL INFORMATION, BE THE INFORMED PATIENT AND INCLUDE FAMILY AS WELL.
I am sorry that your father is suffering from prostrate cancer. I wish him all to best as he is undergoing his treatment. Being diagnosed with cancer is just as traumatic for the family as it is for the patient.
My father also was diagnosed with cancer of the lymph nodes several years back and fought it for three years before succumbing to it in 2004 .
