Re: Kirsten Kemp

If ever there was a TLC host most deserving of her own show, it would be Kirsten Kemp. Wow. Here is one smart woman who really has her act together. (And no, I am not her mother, agent, or husband!)

First, she has a wonderful personality. Where some see arrogance, I see a marvelous sense of humor and an even greater sense of the sublime and ridiculous. Who else could smile through the outrageous statements about budgets, poor designs, missing shower doors, infestations, etc., etc., while large chunks of house are literally breaking off all around her?

I think she cares. I think she cares about the flippers, and I think she wants them to succeed. I think she cares about the world around her too.

She is a seasoned professional. I can't imagine what she has been through in her career up to this point, but I where others see arrogance, I see confidence and experience. You can lose your life savings on a bad flip, particularly in this market. Perhaps Kirsten isn't being as harsh as she should be on these flippers.

Although looks shouldn't matter, Kirsten is only going to get more attractive as she gets older, so she could take a hit show a long, long way.

Finally, to be brutally honest, is there a better smirk in all of Television? Of course not.

I rest my case.

Kirsten is drop dead gorgeous and I will watch any show she does. Her attitude can be harsh, but she is trying to turn around a bad situation. I like her new show.

Bob Dog is right on!! I've been in the homebuilding industry for over 20 years and I would love to have Kirsten give me advice on any project! She is always right on target with her advice and these rookies should really listen to her 100%.

I've analyzed over 200 properties for the financial viability of flipping. I've finally found 2 properties which I submitted offers. If my offer is accepted on either property I would be honored to have Kirsten offer me advice for maximizing my returns and improving the property to it's potential. However, it appears that the run for new episodes of Property Ladder is completed so I'll rely on my own experience and that of others in the industry in my area. I found the program a little too late.

I love watching this show and Kristen is the icing on the cake!
She is so smart and offers ALOT of suggestions that is also helpful to homeowners like myself wanting to remodel our house (52 years old). Because of her advice I would probably start with the bathrooms or kitchen first because she said that is what buyers look for the most and seeing a nice high quality kitchen or bath is a high and fast seller. If for some reason we would not stay here long enough for us to get to all the rooms, I would feel better if we had to sell knowing the main rooms that will be the most important are done!
Thanks Kristen, keep up the good advice AND cute expressions!

I have utmost respect for KK. I would LOVE to work for her. We always pause the DVR and try to see if what advice we would give will match her opinion, and it often does.

I think they bring Kirsten into the process too late, though. She expects flippers to have an accurate budget & timeline, contractors & permits lined up, etc before she gets there. But then she arrives and says, "I think this master should be split into 2 bedrooms so you market it as a 3 bed house." Huh? That was probably never on their radar, they don't have the permits or budget for that, so they proceed with their original plans. KWIM? So they can't win for losing... either they'll be ignoring her sage advice or they'll be behind, trying to gather permits etc.

I like that they started dressing her more professionally than they did the 1st season (weird track suits & casual clothes, anyone?). My DH commented that in the early episodes she was a lot friendlier, gave people hugs, seems excited for them, etc. But now she is a lot more impatient and stern. I don't know if the producers told her to be harsh or if she just got burned out on numbnuts who are so green.

I like it when she gives actual recommendations (stage it this way, don't block this natural light, reuse these floors, etc) rather than when she just nods & gives them the eyebrows, then says to the camera later what she thinks. We often wonder -- Did she tell the flipper that, or just the audience?

What I would LOVE to see is Kirsten to say "They think this flip is going to cost $45K, I think it will be more like $60K," and see how often she is right. Because it seems that no matter how much research people do or how many spreadsheets they create, the budget is always way off. I would love to see the producers show us whether or not an experienced flipper can ballpark it better.

After reading this thread through I need to echo the opinions of the majority. I have yet to see an episode in which I found KK rude or condescending and as far as I know I've seen 'em all...repeatedly. Flipping is a serious business and not easy money as some people may believe. It is especially serious when the flipper has risked everything they have on the project. It's nota game. These people are so fortunate to have KK there and willing to share her knowledge. It's a sure sign of immaturity and lack of common sense if you don't recognize that as priceless. If I had to put up with some of the morons I've seen on the show, then you'd see rudeness and condesention. Sure, there's gonna be timeline and budget issues for rookies, but the flat out ignorance and arrogance of ignoring KK without consideration ticks me off. I'll also agree that she's hot...so I hope that the show continues and that she stays. KK is perfect for this program.
