Actually I am devastated, but since this is a spoiler we are talking about it there..under sad news....

Rocket was actually a very good Dominant. She may have been young and not as experienced as her mom but she was worthy. May she rest in peace and be happy with the rest of her family that has passed to the Rainbow Bridge. I miss her terribly!

Rocket Dog was one of my favorites it seems like you never know what you have until it or in this case they are gone in memory of this fallen princess i am going to get the initials RD tattooed on my wrist

FYI for those who dont know about RD, go to the spoiler board, I believe the name of the thread is sad, sad, news. RD was filmed for season 4, but it is her last. I had such hopes for her, it is indeed sad sad news.

OMG guys i just found out that little rocket dog is not dead!!!!!!!!! somebody just said that to be maen...... that hated her becuse she kicked sophie out of the group for being with wilson. so ya she is not dead i am sooo happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To answer your questions:

Rocket Dog did die. The information is on the website for the Cambridge study that originally habituated these meerkats to human presence, and still follows them, Friends of the Kalahari Meerkat Project. This site releases monthly reports on all the groups, and is discussed on the spoiler board.

Rocket Dog was found dead in April 2008, a few months after the end of season 4 filming. She had been struck by a car on the main road through the Kuruman River Reserve. It was not a researcher's car, as some rumors have said. I do not think she suffered; it was quick.

It was decided not to mention her death in the series, because it would be so traumatic to hear that she passed, senselessly, right after watching her struggle so bravely against the snakebite. MM was never really fair to her, and often disparaged her for things that were outside of her control, or normal for a young DF. She learned from her mistakes; after the tragic loss of Len and Squiggy, RD protected every pup ferociously. Not one more died under her watch. She often led her family to victory in battle, and was not the coward in fights MM sometimes portrayed her as. She never made the foolish error of allowing a pregnant subordinate to babysit her pups; she miscarried her last litter, and the blood on Rita's mouth was from her consumption of the dead fetuses. The film was not of Whisker pups. MM changed the storyline. After this loss, she cared for Rita's pup Juno as her own, after Rita seemed disinterested in him. Whiskers became a small group during her tenure, because she seemed to have some sort of fertility problem. Nugget and Beaker were her only successful pregnancy, and they were a small litter.

She was a great leader, like her mother, and she will always be remembered.

Her legacy lives on in the pups she raised and the many Whisker pups she spared, although she could have killed them, as DF.

vwf053: Yes, well said. Rocketdog will always be remembered. She had to deal with the group in very very harsh and tough times, very little food, the death of Flower, and she did the very best job she possibly could under these circumstances. Bless her little heart!

Rocket Dog was hit by a car on the main road through the Kuruman River Reserve, as I mentioned above. This happened a few months after she survived the snakebite, and season 4 filming ended. It is a public road with a fair amount of traffic, and it runs through Whiskers territory. Sadly, the KMP loses several meerkats a year on the road, as many meerkats don't seem to understand that cars are dangerous. Rocket's son Nugget had a very close call recently, which I hope has made him more cautious. He has grown up to be a very important member of Whiskers, with a personality a lot like his uncle Shakespeare.

Sophie took dominance, and after a very difficult start she has been taking good care of Whiskers.

I miss sweet Rocket Dog. I was devastated when I found out about her death. I hope there is another season so we can see Nugget and Beaker, though.
