I am lucky to have been adopted by three wonderful cats. My first was Socks. His previous owner didnt really want him and left him outside of the apartment, and Socks took it upon himself to find a new home. I put up "found" posters and his owners came and picked him up. They didnt really care for him, as I said before, because exactly one week later, Socks was back, and sleeping on my bed. They never came for him...so he has stayed. I found out that Socks was FIV+ after he was injured in an altercation with a Mockingbird, which stopped his being an outdoor cat. Soon the windows closed and Socks would cry at the door every night. I tried just about everything to calm him, but to no avail...

Enter Abby. I went searching for a "mate" for Socks (they are all altered), after many calls that went something like this...

Me: I am looking for an FIV+ cat

Them: You want to get rid of your FIV+ cat?

Me: no I am looking for another one. I have one and I would like to adopt another one.

Them: oh...

Eventually, I was put in touch with a person who was caring for Abby at a local Vet Hospital. I went to see Abby on a Thursday, she came home on Monday. Abby is a feral FIV+ mama kitty, she gave birth to three FIV- kittens and they were all adopted, by the same person! Abby, however, was not adopted. She lived in a little 2X2X2 cage at the vets. Several times, they asked about putting her to sleep, but her caregiver kept putting it off, knowing that someone would adopt her.

A few weeks later, I recieved a call from a shelter asking if I was still interested in adopting a cat still. I wasnt, but within a week, Blackie became my first Foster...within a year, I officially adopted Blackie

My little "tribe" have their own site... http://www.tophatandtail.blogspot.com/
They are all happy, healthy and I expect them to be around for a good long time. I have truely been adopted, and I am happy.
