I would'nt mind adopting a dog. I would LOVE to rescue one. My problem is I'm gone at LEAST 10 a day working.

Can a pet be happy and content being home alone that much? I USE to have an older dog who spent the last 3 years of his life with me. Though I wish I would have spent more time with him, he actually seemed happy (that is after about 3 months after he finally stopped being so scared when I first took him from where he originally gew up) He slept a lot, and when I had to put him to sleep people WERE telling me he was VERY happy with me and that his last years were happy ones because he was with me.

So I'm MAINLY interested in getting opinions form some people out there who may have more knowledge about this.........
Do you REALLY think a dog would be happy and content being alone living in a home 10 hours a day as long as it's fed, and walked, and loved when I AM home? Maybe not a puppy since a puppy is more energetic and probably needs more attention so perhaps an older dog who most likely would lye around more and sleep.

OR would it be better for the dog to just be at the humain society or animal adoption place?

if anyone has any input or knowledge of this, please get back with me...

Like you, I also work very long hours. I would love to have a dog, but I realize that's it's just not practical or fair to a dog for me to do so right now, so I spend some of my free time volunteering with the dogs at a local shelter. They definitely appreciate the attention and help in finding their forever homes! Have you thought about volunteering at a shelter?

If you're not home enough, you'd need a dogwalker during the day and possibly even in the evening if you get home too late. If you can afford to take your dog to doggie day care every day then your dog would have plenty of exercise and playmates. Of course, that can be pretty expensive. I'd wait to get a dog or find a job that allows you to bring you dog to work!

I know you want to adopt a dog, but have you considered a cat? I would think if you adopted two cats that had each other for companionship while you were at work that it would be fine if they were home without you during the day. There are many rescue groups in desperate need of foster homes for cats so that might be another option for you.

Hope that helps!
