Hi,

We are the same people that rescued a Jack Russell Terrier, about 6 weeks ago. Christmas eve we received an email about two puppys that had been found abandoned on the street. A woman had them both, she had been feeding them, but they were outdoor dogs. She said they were Jack Russell Terriers. Well, being Christmas Eve and all, we felt we needed to take them in. We went Christmas day to check them out. They were very fearful of people though. We did finally get them to come to us and we decided to take a chance and take them home to meet our other two dogs. Well, first thing we did was give the little guys each a bath, and whoa the difference that made in their appearance. We (having two JRT's already, a female named Lady, the our newest addtion, about 6 weeks ago, a male we named Steve-o, he is about 9-10 months old) two name these two Tramp and Wes.
Well, the day after Christmas a friend of ours came over and inspected these dogs, and confirmed our idea that these two were not JRT's. They were both as large as our male JRT, so we couldn't believe they were only 9 weeks old. Turns out they were actually 9 week old Pit Bull Terriers. Well, were we live we are unable to keep these type of dogs. They are extremely lovable puppies, but it broke our hearts that we would have to let them go. We called every place we could possibly think of, but no one was willing to take them for at least 6 weeks. Well, animal lovers know that this would total kill us, to have them that long, get extremely emotionally attached, then have to let them go, we couldn't do it. We did end up taking them to our Humane Society, which reassured us, they would not be "put down". They said that since they were so young, they would be held for 3 days, to see if anyone came looking for them, then if no one claimed them, they would be given an "aggression test". If they passed the aggression test, they would be put up for adoption. They also reassured us, that puppies are almost always adopted. Eventhough we only had them one day, it broke pur hearts to have to let them go. We pray that they go to a great home that will care for them as much as we would have (Tramp & Wes, we will miss you)

I'm so sorry that you had to give up your puppies. At least they were so young and therefore so easy to place. Recently Denver passed a law banning pitbulls. It continues to overwhelm the shelters and rescue groups in the whole state. I can understand where you're coming from. Prejudices about breeds are very sad.
