I'd like to see this weapon on the show since it's being put to use by a few units out over there.

U.S. SOCOM (Special Operations Command) adopted this as their rifle.

why isn't this on the show yet?! It is at least one step ahead of every assault rifle. you can change the calibur from 5.56 (the SCAR-L) to the 7.62 (the SCAR-H), you can attatch via easy clamp-on either a forward handgrip or an EGLM grenade launcher. Plus the rifle itself has a tan yellow exterior for desert camoflage.

They are adopting it. The SCAR is in the field testing phase. But there are some serious problems with it.

The SCAR program has received approval from the U.S. gov't to begin its "initial operational testing and evaluation" stage.

The testing will run until mid-December at which time it's hoped it will be deemed "operationally effective" and suitable for fielding to U.S. forces.

It also has earned a new designation: Mk16 Mod0 and Mk17 Mod0 for the SCAR-L and SCAR-H respectively.

As a side note, what's with these new designation systems, anyway? It used to be "M", as in "M16" or "M1" or "M1A" or "M14", but now it appears to be "Mk" and "Mod". Sounds Anglo-inspired to me. Is it because this rifle isn't intended to be fielded to general forces, only SOCOM? There is that Mk18 Mod0 (CQBR) typical_is_back_again was telling me about the other day in a different thread too. There's also the "Mk48 Mod0" (updated M249) typical_is_back_again said the Marines just bought a metric sh*tload of.

The only real problems facing the FN SCAR stem from some cracking after a few thousand rounds along the weapon, I believe in the barrel, and I believe they are also having trouble with supressors, however, if these kinks are ironed out, it whould go well.

M numbers are US Army designations, as in M16A1 for the 16th rifle developed since the 1930s and the second minor change to that rifle. The Navy uses Mk mod, for Mark and modification. As in the "Mk 19 mod 3" 40mm Grenade launcher. If a weapon was developed by the Army, every uses the Army nomenclature, if the Navy came out first it keeps the "Mk"

Since the Navy's Crane NSW develops/tests new weapons for SPECOPs, so new SPECOPS weapons tend to use Navy-style designations.

Not only that. But SOCOM is now headed up by an Admiral. JSOC is headed up by an Admiral. Back when General Brown was the head of SOCOM they had Army nomn for a lot oftheir weapons (but not all). But you are correct.
