i've been watching the show with my niece and i love the way it appeals to both kids and adults. she loves animals and laughs her head off at the antics. i love that she's learning that as a female she can be curious, funny and kind to animals!!!
Wanda, You are right, a woman who travels the world, loves animals, and makes kids laugh is a horrible mentor, but a girl that grows up to leave negative posts on animal show chatroom like you....wow...now that is someone my child can look up to. I think the only reason you are taken so seriously on a professional level, and every other level, is simply because you have no sense of humor.

this hostess doesn NOT have a goo dsense of humor... or at least is doesn tcome through on this show. she is a fake. a HACK. she is one of those people who wants to make it in hollywood being the HOSTESS of WHATEVER show she/he can get.i am do the whole he/she thing because i'm am a male and i don't want you to get the idea i dont like this woman because she is a she.
i invite you to pleas go to this thread (if you haven't already). it proves that this woman is just a hollywood hostess who wants a job. here's the link: http://community.discovery.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/7891965078/m/2831954678
Not all of Hollywood hosting shows (see Sigourney Weaver on Planet Earth) are shallow. Rachel is inspirational, intelligent, beautiful, and I believe her career choices do not curtail her love of nature. She IS a good role model and negative posts come from jealousy and anger. I think it's a great, non-violent, educational show. I'm a mom and a teacher.
P.S. When Discovery Channel picks their hosts for both live action and voices they find people who truly believe in the cause. I love ALL Discovery hosts.
A role model for girls? Uh,yeah right.Any young girl who likes animals or would consider working with them someday, should have a role model who is realistic.Someone who can get up close to the animal and someone who knows their stuff.I have nothing personal against "Miss Adventure" herself, but as a role model I think she'd do better at a beauty pageant.
The only ones that like her are relatives and acquaintances. Remember what happened to Kelly after the "King of the Jungle" fiasco? Discovery and AP received a LOT of disappointing e-mails, her last show was boycotted. Her friends and acquaintances tried to build up a fan club, but... where is Kelly now?
Alexis had a large number of fans, and I am sure that if she has her own show she will be supported. Her facts were fresh in her mind. She was poised, educated, and a strong role model to women who want to pursue a career in this field.
Hard core fans and viewers of AP know what they want. They prefer expertise, and knowledge. Want someone funny? Have Jeff or Nigel goof off a little. At least they know what the heck they're talking about, and viewers want to learn.
But giving airtime to a woman who is clueless, being the only female with an animal show in the network is derrogatory, and an insult to professional women in the field.
