I'd like to know more about what's happening in the wheelhouse techwise. I've seen the screens and radios, but what are they? how do they work and help the captain do his thing? What program is the computer running? sutff like that. Maybe even simulcast the replay of the screen capture when the show airs.

Then, as a follow up, maybe an online interactive game where the website users can navigate then drop a virtual string of pots. Perhaps a contest to see who can catch the most virtual crab.

The radios are usually Marine band VHF (local/close in boat-to-boat use as VHF is line-of sight propogation, the two antennas have to be able to see eachother and run FM operating mode), and HF SSB used for longer distance communications as HF will bounce back and forth between the earth surface and the sky.

They also have Sat Phones but they can be tricky depending on what bird they are using, and the type of phone, frequency, and antenna they are using. Older Sat phones are not full duplex (in other words unlike regular landline and cell phones, only one person can talk at a time), and some have to have a direct aim to the bird (like a direct TV dish) in order to work, where others will work with an omni directional antenna (like the antenna for your car radio).

What can I say, I'm a radio and communications geek, I work in emergency management, and go into the field after a disaster and set up emergency communications systems (Sat, and radio comms) until the local infrastructure is restored.
