During its first season, it was a permanent top-10 cable show every week. Back then it was new and original, and there just wasn’t much competition out there. The only home improvement cable show that did better was “Trading Spaces”.
At the beginning of the second season, they abruptly changed hosts without any warning. It was a huge mistake by the producers not to play up the new host in the summer ads (especially since the old host, Teresa, had voluntarily stepped down), but they just let it be a "surprise" instead. They lost a chunk of viewers from that fiasco. But those viewers who hung around were rewarded by a great new host in Evan. Unfortunately, along with the turmoil of the host change, the number of similar home improvement shows increased exponentially – and both WYWO and TS both fell out of the top-10. But they were still very popular and well done shows during that season and well into the next.
Then the producers started playing “hide the show in a new spot every week” so that the fans couldn’t find it any more. Eventually only the most die-hard fans had the energy to even look for it. Combined with a glut of other home improvement shows (even on the major networks), the additional of channels like HGTV on pretty much every cable and satellite network (24/7 home improvement shows), and TLC’s total lack of support, no show – no matter how well loved by those of us that stuck through with it all these years – could hope to survive.
It was a great run, but it deserved so much more respect and support from its producers and the folks at TLC. But the great cast members – especially Teresa, Evan, Leslie and Andrew – along with all the great designers, will live on in our hearts and memories.
Anyway, that is my take on it. Other’s may have seen it differently, but its cancelled all the same…

Had they not kept changing the time and day the show was on and had the "fame" not gone so much up to Evan's head, it might not have been cancelled. Chayse was truly beginning to get on my nerves as well with all her on camera hissy fits. I loved Leslie and Andrew though...they will be a huge asset to TS!!
The show was cancelled due to restructuring of the TLC format. Notice that most of the new shows are self-help/therapy type shows. I don't believe that it had to do with anyone's ego at all - other than the boss's at TLC, that is!

Uhm, excuse me?! Fame going to Evan's head - okay not sure what planet your on. You do know that Evan was on a *very* popular MTV TV show a few years back called 2Gether and that he had young women climbing up sides of hotels to see him and fainting when they did. If fame was ever going to go to his head it would have been then, long before he started doing WYWO.
ditto to that sandra. i don't think being on a cable home improvement show would exactly create that much fame to get to someones head. evan did a great job hosting wywo and seemed to just have a lot of fun doing it.
Fame has not gone to Evan's head. He is an exuberant host who is very entertaining. I see no sign of issues with his ego. The only cast member that annoys me is Mark Montano because I think his taste is in his mouth. I hate his designs. I guess it doesn't matter anymore.
Mark has had some overly themed room which were a little, ok, maybe a lot crazy but he's also had some really nice rooms too. Especially toward the end. Some Mark rooms I really like are Kiva, Travelers Lounge, Hotel Chic, Cyclarama, SOS, and Global Garage.
