I realy enjoy last night episode. They went back to the core showing very talented guys working in their garages or small shops.I hope we willsee more episodes like this.
===================== I absolutely agree with you. I've been VERY impressed with the entire new crop of 2007 BBO's. Not a bad show in the bunch so far. I'm actually surprised...I thought the full season of episodes which aired in FALL 2006 were going to be the only new shows until FALL 2007. So I'm very happy that there have been these new episodes in early 2007.
Also, these new 2007 shows are absolutely fanatstic. I have not seen one bad show yet. Each one is different -- each has a different "feel" -- like the hardcore biker themed episode of INDIAN LARRY LEGACY vs.TREVELENE; and the hot-rod, race-inspired themes of HART vs. HOLLINGER & WILLIAMS vs. COMPTON.
Hugh King must have also listened to the fans regarding those SALT FLAT time trial episodes which ran in FALL 2006. I thought they were awful and added little value to the show. I love the drag races at the end of some builds, but they are not appropriate for every show either. I would love to see KENDALL JOHNSON in a drag show.
These new builders really keep the show fresh and exciting. The diversity really makes the show stand out. I know some people dislike a certain type of builder (such as the 'superstar' or 'rich shop owner' who has his/her people do most of the build, but for me that what makes the show: the constant love/hate relationship that a BBO Fan may have really keeps the tension of it all.
DAVE NICHOLS of "V-TWIN" & "EASYRIDERS" gives this absolutely pathetic editorial regarding BBO in this month's MAY 2007 issue of EASYRIDERS magazine. 'DAVE' seems to be lamenting the course the show may be taking in regards to the new talent showcased. From what I gathered from the editorial, Mr. NICHOL's seems to be saying that these possible new torch-bearers such as a WESTBURY or a FULLER may not have as much street-cred as the old order, and because of this they (and BBO) may actually be hurting biking. To DAVE apparently, the days when BILLY LANE and INDIAN LARRY ruled are the only true BBO shows. Any show that expresses the hardcore, "authentic" biker mentality is acceptible, but any show that defers from this archetype is less in quality. DAVE points out the INDIAN LARRY/BILLY LANE heads-up that ended in a draw because they agreed upon it beforehand and then chopped up the trophy to show it's about the ride and brotherhood, and not about the trophy. I guarantee that was due to INDIAN LARRY and not BILLY LANE. LARRY was the person who kept things grounded back then. Whose to say that if BILLY LANE had won that he would have chopped up the trophy. I don't have any problems with BILLY LANE unlike a lot of motorcycle forum users seem to have. I think he's alright except for the alledged tragic accident, but I dont buy into this bad boy biker culture either. Not from him, JESSE JAMES, or DAVE NICHOLS.
The notion of brotherhood can be expressed in many different ways. You don't have to always wear it like a tattoo. Look at how ANDREW WILLIAMS & others of the DEPARTURE BIKE WORKS team honored a fallen friend and brother in this weeks episode. Tastefully and sincerely done without all of the flash and putting it in people's faces. Class acts all the way man.
Who the hell is DAVE NICHOLS to decide what is authentic BBO or biker?
Also, DAVE can think he's "gangsta" all he wants, but when you see him on his yuppie super-expensive, fat-tired, over-chromed motorcycle riding beside his buddie EDDIE TROTTA on another super-expensive toy for celebs and yuppies, DAVE doesn't look like he is in any position to lecture any BBO Fan on what is true hardcore BBO. DAVE seems to be one of fake baby-boomer bikers who thinks he is a real biker because like all of those fake "biker-doctors" and fake "biker-lawyers" he knows biker slang and the secret hand-shake. You know...the ones who pretty much dress like a biker in leather and chaps like a kid dresses up for halloween.
Just because these new builders don't have tattoos over every square inch of their body or put on this fake bad boy routine, that does not diminish their viability as bikers.
Now, to be fair DAVE does correctly point out that BBO is really more about a culture and not necessarily about the contest because given the way Builders & bikes are judged on the show the best build does not win. "...It's about the ride..." I, like most BBO fans, would probably agree this, but no one can say that the builder with long hair & tattoos is the true biker over the suburban guy in a crew-cut & t-shirt. I always felt that a low-point in BBO history was in the 2005 season during the CHICA vs. PUGLIESE episode. I have always felt "uncomfortable" with the way MIKE PUGLIESE left CHICA & JOHNNY CHOP when CHICA's bike had technical problems during the ride and need some maitenance. Especially given that it seemed to have bothered Johnny Chop.
Obviously the contest isn't to be taken too seriously -- it is about having fun and the ride, but don't hold up this BILLY LANE version of being a biker as authentic and anyone who doesn't conform to this stereotype as in-authentic as MR. NICHOLS seems to be doing.
DAVEs full of beans too!!!! He partcipated in the BIG 2005 SESAON FINALY SHOW of BBO. You can see him in the audience when EDDIE TROTTA gets his BEST PAINT AWARD.
I think the new builder who have been on the show are great!! But also don't make the mistake of making all biker fit your mold of the AMA, if you look at the new BBO's you now they are biker by their actions. Or by the way I have a bread, tattoos a lot of them, and wear leather!
