The "Aurora" engine on that sweet trike (that looked a lot like a small block Chevy with hemi-heads.) Was it an Oldsmobile engine or something custom? Thanks.
I'm not certain. The Oldsmobile Aurora has an aluminum v8, it's a 4.0, a weird displacement, 244 cubic inches or something like that. It's very small by v8 standards, even the first small block was a 265 if memory serves.
My brother-in-law has an Aurora, and that engine Craig used certainly resembles the one in my brother-in-law's car if you remove the engine covers, but the thing that makes me doubt is that the Oldsmobile Aurora v8 is a front wheel drive engine.
Craig had that engine bolted to a rear wheel drive transmission, and a rear wheel drive rear axle. (A ford 8.8)
I think he would have had to have a custom input shaft and bellhousing adapter made at the very least to make that work.
It's based off of the IRL race motor, I think. They make like 650 HP, but his must have been the detuned version. The don't call them olds motors anymore but Chevy motors.
They'd have to. Old's shut down in what? 2004? I remember seeing a picture of them rolling the last Alero off the assembly line and everyone signed the underside of the hood or something like that.
