This is only the second time I've visited this site, and only because I was concerned about Captain Phil.

lonebeagle is a scary individual, IMO.
These are the kind of people who will start to dictate how people live, if given a chance.
His/her argument sounds just to the left of Eugenics. Not quite there, but walking a fine line.
The rhetoric about responsibility and resources jumped out at me right away as red flags of that position. (Look it up on Wiki, or just the dictionary.)
Next we'll be told who is fit enough to live. (ie: Hitler's eugenics).

Congratulations! You just proved Godwin's Law!

Now I'm a Nazi! Have you actually READ my posts?

Of course not. Pointing out that people should look after their health because there are serious consequences of ignoring their well being hardly makes me a Eugenics proponent (or a Nazi).

Let's see, what are the consequences of Phil's ill health? Well, he might die soon and his son's and family will be without their dad and brother/husband/uncle/ect. His boat is without a captain.

Now you can sit back and say, "Ah! Why is all of this happening to such a nice guy!" Or you can say, "Why did he act so foolishly since all of this could have been avoided?"

Watching Phil wretching and in pain not being able to breath and then not wanting to seek medical help was absolutely pathetic.

What would you all have said if he dropped dead right there? Sorry, I find very it very difficult to understand his behavior.

I can tell you that physicians see this all the time in patients--and they just shake their heads.

It's a very sad situation--I'll save my pity for those who were not so fortunate as Phil.

Wow!
This is the first time I have visited this site. I don’t watch much TV, but my youngest son likes this show, so I’ve watched a few episodes with him. I also don’t write letters like this. As a matter of fact, I think this is the first time I’ve ever done this, but I just had to send this note.
The thing I like the most about this show is the strong family ties. I’m not a materialistic person, so the risk they take every day, that they are out at sea, far outweighs any money they earn…to me. But, I noticed something bigger then the money and that was that these guys have a bond that some people will never enjoy having in their life time. I visited this site to see how Phil was doing after watching the episode where he had to go to the hospital. I was a surgical nurse, so I fully understand what Phil has to deal with. And, with any luck he will never have to read any of the garbage I just read through. The medical person’s comments were, to say the least, ignorant! It appears you have examined Phil and viewed all his lab work…Oh, wait, no you didn’t. But, you are very full of yourself, I will give you that. So, it seems that you think Phil is not worthy of our care and concern, because he “might” have done this to himself? I am so glad I am not under that persons care. Things are what they are. None of us get to decide how long we are here, regardless of what we eat, drink, or do. But we can control what people think of us while we are with them and long after we are gone. Phil is a good man! He’s there for his boys and he’s committed to his crew and friends. He puts everyone else’s needs before his own…so, he’s not a selfish man. Why do people always seem to look for the worst in someone? Why do people feel they have some “god given” right to tell people what they should do or how they should do it?
Phil,
If you or your boys do read this…Enjoy the rest of your life, and do it your way! I wish my husband had been as hard working, caring, un-selfish and loving to his family as you clearly are. I enjoy watching this show and having the opportunity to see what life is like on the other side of the country. I live on the Maine seacoast, so I’m use to the fishing industry…but it’s nothing like in Alaska. I wish you, your family and friends all the best!!

Again, lonebeagle

You lash out in anger saying I called you a Natzi -which I never did- and tell a Captain he is "pathetic".
You work in healthcare?
You've got to be kidding me.

I have pity for every person in pain or in a bad situation. I don't check to see how they've lived their lives, or how much they make, or any other judgemental criteria you subscribe to.
I care about the human condition.

You, IMO, are a very angry, bitter, judgemental rigid person who has no social skills.
I feel sorry for those who have to interact with you.

In regard to the nazi reference:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nazi_eugenics

Didn't call you one, but have a look-see.

Godwin's Law does not apply since I never linked you specifically with it. Reread my post.

Everyone else might want to take a gander and decide for themselves......
Wink

Phil -
I'd love to ride on the back of your Harley sometime! Then we can be as hedonistic as all get-out and toast lonebeagle!

Wasn't it rebels and risk takers that MADE this country? "Priscilla"lonebeagle should be ignored after this. Totally anger based crapolla. (IMHO)

None of us on this board really have *any* right at all to give Phil advice, or tell Phil what he should do in this situation and that situation. remember- all of this has already happened and is over. It's not like Phil is still in the hospital at this moment!

He is a grown man, he can make his own decisions. To call him a dead man walking IMO is out of line, whether you work in health care or not!

The best and ONLY thing we should be doing, instead of arguging about what he should or should not do, is to pray/send our best wishes to him that he remains in the best of health! It's support he needs, if anything at all, not bashing for something he either did or didn't do.

Just my two cents.

I said it on the CM post as well, Phil- if you read this- i hope this finds you doing well and heading back towards nearly 100% help. Josh & Jake, if you read this too, then stay strong and remain safe! You all will come out of it through thick & thin Smile

What the troll has not yet acknowledged is that his/her ranting about anyone else's life choices is extremely bad for his/her own health. Anger - which the troll has amply shown - is an extremely damaging emotion. It raises the blood pressure to unhealthy levels. Following his/her own ideas, no one should be sympathetic toward him/her when s/he has a stroke or heart attack because s/he's caused it him/herself by making the choice to become angry.

The troll has evidently not read my post. I distinctly recall saying "I'm done with you." The troll also seems to prefer giving advice rather than taking it. Elsewise, the troll would be planted under a bridge with his/her lips wrapped firmly around the big fat juicy lab rat sucking away as I suggested. We can only hope he/she wraps his/her fingers around it as well (to get a good grip) and leaves the keyboard alone.
