picking mushrooms involves hiking through forests, up and down mountain slopes, rooting around in salal and mahonia, hands and knees in the dirt 7 hours a day, rain or shine. there is also the the part about dying if you pick the wrong thing...
bees, mosquitos (early in the season), spiders, ticks (!), but the dirtiest part? dealing with the mushroom buyers...(totally unsavory lot...)
i challenge you guys to check it out...mountain climbing, with a twenty lb. bag of fragile delicacies and a camera, (10 to 15 bags a day) only to sell them for 3 or 5 dollars a lb, knowing they go for as much as $180 a pound at their final destination!!! (tokyo, new york, san francisco)
it's pretty dirty, and a little rough. it is definitely NOT about the money....!!!
