Mike, I am an athlete in the US Bobsled and Skeleton Federation. From October through April every year we train and race on a mile-long shoot of ice in Lake Placid, New York. Although we consider our job as athletes to be a little dirty, and certainly painful on occasion, our job idea for you is our track maintenance crew. These men and women work day and night to provide us with the best possible track conditions for us to train and compete on. The work performed includes: hand shaving the entire mile-long track with a small tool called a roller-chisel, spraying the track with water to ensure a smooth surface, filling in gouges with slush, welding, and lots of shoveling snow and ice. And the best aspect of the crews job has to be Lake Placid's beautiful weather. Snow, ice, rain, sleet and temperatures as low as -10F are all very common conditions for the crew to work in.
