Hi Mike,

I know you've already been introduced to the sewage and pumping industry. But there's actually another branch of that carreer that also gets pretty dirty. At the lower end of a residential septic tank is what's called a leach field. The term "leach" is probably scary due to some of the places you've been, but rest assured it has nothing to do with you loosing blood to any parasites.
That being said, I'd like to invite you to experience my world. Most of the septic systems I install are replacement systems, so pumping the old septic out is the first step, which can be pretty dirty, but believe me when I say pulling the old rusty septic tank out of the ground is WAY more dirty! If that isn't enough, we get right down in the hole and clean the old pipe out to connect the new tank to it. The final part of the system is the leach field. Usually there's an old one already in the lawn that has us walking ankle deep in effluent. Probably the cleanest part of this job is the process of holding the perforated pipe steady in the trench while the front-end loader trickles limestone in. This gets pretty dusty, you may want to wear a dust mask.

Bring yer boots,
