New Orleans has Mardi Gras carnival, Detroit MI has Fat Tuesday and Paczkis. Paczkis (pronounced "poonch-key" meaning ) are essentially super jelly dough nuts. That is they have more fat and calories than your basic bismark. Fat Tuesday is so named for the oil and shortening found in paczkis that Christian Poles so often give up for Lent. Making the dough nuts is very messy. I know I used to make them. If you don't get flour and sugar on you while making the dough, you'll surely get grease all over your cloths, in your hair, ect.. while you fry the paczkis. And your sure to make a mess glazing, sugaring, frosting, and filling the paczkis. As I said I used to make them, the bakery I worked for closed. Here are the address' and phone numbers for bakeries that are famous for paczkis: New Polka Bakery 9834 Conant St, Hamtramck, MI (313) 873-7959
