We clean underground diesel storage tanks. We remove all good fuel. After that there is somewhere between 3 and 8 inches of thick, black, nasty sludge left in the bottom of the tank. We wear Tyvek suits, respirator, rubber boots, and rubber gloves. We enter the tank using a tripod and winch. When we are done cleaning the tank we sandblast it. The sandblasting process is a dirty deal too. We use between 3000 and 6000 pounds of sand. When sandblasting in a tank you can't see and it is cloudy and dusty. When you get out you are covered in black dust. When we are done sandblasting we put a sprayed on liner in the tank. The paint we use dries in 7 minutes and is sticky and nasty. The whole job is a very dirty job. When we get home and shower out bathtubs look like dirty swamp water.
