We'd like to invite Mike to visit us at the Battleship North Carolina Memorial. We are involved in many different dirty jobs here. Cleaning, painting and welding a variety of places both high overhead and also deep in the rusty bowels of the ship. We also still have heavy fuel oil in the tanks that we have to check and are in the process of removing. Very dirty and very interesting work.
Don't forget HOT in the summertime, with the solar heat. And if you are on the raft, working on the outside of the hull, Charlie the Gator or one of his nephews may pay a visit!
Mike needs to come to Wilmington and work on the Showboat, USS NORTH CAROLINA.
Yes! Battleship Fixer has a great idea. The proud USS North Carolina (the SHOWBOAT) has a significant place in our US history -- WWII period. It takes a LOT of hard, dirty work to keep her shipshape. Many of the jobs are "behind the scenes" and VERY dirty -- but, HIGHLY interesting. Restoring and maintaining our beloved battleship is not just a job. It is a loyal duty which not only battleship employees but also a dedicated group of volunteers heartily embrace. Come on, Mike and join us in some of our hot and dirtiest work. You'll love it; and get DOWN and DIRTY as well.
I don't think I have ever been filthier than after a good day of working on Battleship. Imagine 65 years of accumulated dirt, grease, and grime. This is one of the worst, nastiest jobs that you love to do. If you work real late at night, just hope Mr Stryker doesn't come to check on you!
Yeah Mike, you and the whole gang need to come spend some time on the most decorated battleship to serve the Navy in WW2. Plenty of dirty work that needs to be done, scraping decks, cleaning bilges, cleaning tanks of 65 year old Navy Special fuel oil. Loads of fun in Wilmington!
This is a great idea. I'm a volunteer on the ship and there are a LOT of Dirty Jobs for Mike and the gang ... It's HOT, dirty and in many places very cramped. Just what Mike would like ... Plus it's a piece of living history .. The most decorated battleship of WWII
If you like rust. If you like paint caked layer on layer, paint on paint, paint on rust. If you like sludge. If you like oil that's been sitting in the bottom of a battleship for 50 years. If you like water leaks, water leaking into oil, water leaking into rust, you're gonna love the Battleship North Carolina. You gotta love the job to keep a WWII battleship ship shape and ready for the public. Would love to see this dirty job on the air.
As an added bonus Wilmington is home to EUE Screen Gems studios so the area is very production friendly. The show One Tree Hill films on site. Our web site is: www.battleshipnc.com PS. just helped a dive crew patch a hole in the hull, very big Kodak moment. Took two showers after this one, ick.
Mike, please come out to BB55. As a fellow Rowe, I can promise that working on the Ship is the most rewarding dirty work there is! Working below decks with no ventilation, lots of paint chips flying and layer after layer of dirt is just the first step. Scavenging for parts, fixing and painting, contorting and climbing to get those tough to reach places. . . the fun never ends. I actually had to dye my hair because 3 weeks later the paint still wouldn't come out.
This is a great idea. I have watched the show many times. This is right along with what you like to do. Also we have not mentioned the smell it takes days to get out of your nose and clothes.
I think a visit to the Battleship North Carolina is a great idea for a dirty jobs episode. There is plenty of dirty work that goes on there (grease, oil, paint, and so on). Mike will like getting dirty on the Battleship NC.
You've heard the phrase "getting down and dirty." Well, if Mike takes on this job and he goes DOWN into the bowels of this beautiful ship, he will get DIRTY! I hope he gives it a try.
Only a few months after Pearl Harbor, the North Carolina a.k.a. "The Showboat" arrived, amid the cheers of sailors still sorting out the wreakage of the Japanese attack. She was the leading edge of Americas resolve to fight back to victory. Thousands of her crew fought with her, and a few died upon her. Now she fights a never ending battle the effects of time, and human indifference. Grind off some rust and old paint, put on some new paint, smell the dust and the fuel oil. Help save this great lady while bringing her to the attention of a new generation.
Kevin Air Living History Crew volnteer.
Ay, tear her tattered ensign down! Long has it waved on high, And many an eye has danced to see That banner in the sky.
What better way to educate a new generation about our great naval history. As being a Rowe myself it would be a great Honor for you and the crew to bask in our great heritage while taking care of the Battleship North Carolina.
What a great idea! I haven't been there since I was a kid. Plus it would give everyone a chance to see the "behind the scenes" places you can't access on the guided tour.
Ah, the fall. This is the perfect time to get dirty on the Battleship and boy are we ever. Cutting metal with fire, chipping paint and rust, installing lights, pulling ventilation fans and the ever popular... pumping oily water. Life is good.
We really would like Mike to come and see how dirty a 68 year old ship is. We'll find lots for him to do. We may not have poo, but we sure have dirt, grease and grime.
