Hi Mike,

I have been working at a Boy Scout camp in the Pocono Mtns in Pennsylvania for years. We have an event for the campers every wednesday afternoon throughout the summer called THE TREXLER RANGERS!!!

This course is a giant team building course that we run people through where there are many events focused on team building, leadership and fun. But most importantly GETTING DIRTY!

Throughout the course we crawl on our stomachs through muddy creeks, scale 12' walls where mud and dirt are falling on you, sliding down hills on our backsides and most importantly the course ends with everybody getting as muddy as possible. I have done this over 50 times in my career and it is just as awesome every time.

I know you are an Eagle Scout and I think that you may have done all of the requirements to earn that badge except one......BECOME A TREXLER RANGER!!!!!

Sincerely Yours,

Mike Williams
COPE Director

Hundreds of Scouts do the course during each week of camp. The Trexler Ranger course is something that the scouts never forget and ends up being one of the highlights of their scouting career. I worked at camp for three summers and I know that everyone on staff looks forward to taking the scouts through the course. Not just scouts but the leaders and parents alike all have fun and learn a thing or two about leadership and working together. PLUS GETTING NICE AND MUDDY!!!! Mike this is a MUST do!!!!

Eagle Scout, Venturer and one time Assistant Scout Master here. Hardly a dirty job, and if that's the highlight of someone's scouting career you're doing it wrong.

This is an awesome idea. The camp will be host to over 1400 Boy Scouts and 350 adult leaders over a six week period this summer. During any given week, the camp will have 400 to 450 people participating in this activity. I am sure this will be the highlight of anyone's Scouting career.

Tis is truly an event and activity that you will not want to miss.

I think this would be truly great. I don't think Mike could handle it though. I think it might be too tough for him. Hey Mike there's a challenge for you. Come to Trexler and see how Dirty you can really get. Wink

Trexler Rangers is the greatest muck hike/team building ever. Enter as many, Leave as one!

I have been doing Trexler Rangers for the last few years. It can be said that the dirt is ground in to the bone. Watch the rocks as you slide down the dirt hill, the cold water going under the fence in the stream (we need somewhere to get clean) before the baptism of the muck from Lake Trexler.

Nothing beats a bath of decaying leaves, muck and mud from the depths of the Lake.

Mike, if you read this, I think the Rangers is too dirty for even you.

This is by far one of the most memorable things I do all summer. I am a staff member and have been working there for 8 years and I enjoy doing it every week for 6 weeks. Just seeing kids and adults working together to achieve one goal is one of the most amazing things ever. The best part is just seeing all the kids laughing and having a good time and I have never seen anyone on the course have a bad time. The course is the best thing ever and is really dirty. The whole course you just get incredibly dirty and nobody comes out not covered in mud leaves dirt and of course a smile on their face. I really feel like you should come and do it. This will be a dirt job you will never forget.

Mike Sautkulis is right. Never should a freakin' scout camp be the highlight of a scouts experience. It should be in a court of honor when you earn a prestigous award. But still i bet it was fun. All my scout camps were boring.

Mr. Sautkulis, I think you are incorrect in stating that a highlight of a scouting career should be at a Court Of Honor. The goal in scouting is supporting young people in their physical, mental and spiritual development. Scouting is more than just earning a badge or completing the requirements to meet rank, which often is the only aspect celebrated at a Court of Honor. I think you are doing it wrong if your best most memorable moments in your scouting career come from a Court Of Honor. As an Eagle Scout, I can attest that I remember and cherish more of the memories and experiences that I gained throughout my scouting career going to summer camp or completing merit badges or by volunteering for the community than I did at any Court of Honor, even my own Eagle Scout Court of Honor.

Secondly, the Trexler Rangers is awesome and I think it would be wonderful for Mike Rowe to visit Trexler Scout Reservation and partake in the tradition!

I have had the great privledge of presenting a few Eagle Badges over the years, and though it is a great accomplishment many who partake are so overwhelmed that they barely remember the Ceremony.

The memories that are made in Scouting are the fun events, Summer Camps, Jambos, Patrol Activities. Those are what I remember from my Scouting Days, though it was many years ago.

I am proud to be a Trexler Ranger! I am proud and privledged to have done the Ranger Course with both my boys as Scouts. And I will be even happier to go through the course this year as my youngest joins staff. Those are memories.

TREXLER RANGERS ROCKS!!!!
