Rogers' Electric El Dorado, AR
I am the Brother-in-Law of the owner. This is a small business that services, sells, and rewinds electric motors. It was my first real job, but I do not work there anymore. I contacted the owner and he said that it would be outstanding to have Dirty Jobs come to his place.
As far as a specific job title, well I guess you could call it "Motor Rewinder". I don't think that would be the only job Mike Rowe would get to do. When a motor comes in it has to be documented what type and relevant rewind info has to be written down. Then the motor has to be broken down, coils cut out, cleaned, paint the core, cut the paper insulator, wind the coils, put the coils in the motor, dipped in lacquer, baked, change the bearings, put it back together, and tested.
Cleaning the parts is dirty especially if the motor is a sewage pump. Sewage pumps affectionately called "S - - T Pumps" can sometimes harbor some really foul stuff. I can remember one having feminine products stuck in the pump. Not to mention sewage in general.
Overall the owner would be thrilled to have Mike and the crew join him for a days work in the motor rewind business.

Place: Turpentine Creek Wildlife Rescue Job: Zoologist intern City: Eureka Springs, Arkansas They are a big cat rescue, and they mostly have lions, tigers, cougers, and bears, and a few other animals. There would be a lot of dirty jobs from cleaning up all the poop (which Mike would love) to sorting the meat for feeding time, since the food gets it all donated from local stores. Their website is http://www.turpentinecreek.org and they also have videos on YouTube about some of their rescues.

The sh*thole (appropriately named) in the salebarn at Ash Flat, Arkansas.
Ash Flat Livestock
Back in my younger days, I worked at the Ash Flat salebarn in various areas. The worst place and most dirtiest was the sh*thole. It was the small pen that the cattle would be held in right before going onto the scales then into the sales area. For some reason, almost every cow, bull, steer, etc, would wait until they were in that pen to go to the bathroom. It was always 2 inches or more deep and very slick from the urine and feces. Someone had to be in the pen to prod the cattle into the scales when the door opened. Most cattle would slip trying to take off and would throw the feces all over the person working in there. It would cake up and dry solid on our boots and halfway up our jeans by the time we were through. The rest of our body would be splattered all the way to our cowboy hats, including on our face. It was a dirty job.

k_row1 Junior Member Posted 02-17-08 03:12 PM Mill room / mixing at Cooper Tire and Rubber Company in Texarkana, AR is one of the nastiest jobs I have ever seen. Remember putting Vaseline on your face when you cleaned the Madea's boiler? That wouldn't do you even a tiny bit of good here!
Texarkana would love to have you here.

powdered metal press maintenance Subiaco,Ar this is the dirtiest job in Arkansas hands down...imagine a two story 30 ton press that churns out tens of thousands of powdered metal timing components every day. Now think about all the excess powder from one of these machines. Its in the air, on the ground, on the machine, its gets every where. now imagine 8 of them all going at the same time for 24 hours straight 7 days a week for 2-3 weeks before they are cleaned...Now think about the guy who has to clean them. it is filthy dusty oily nasty work and it is infinitely more dirty than any chicken plant will ever be and i know I've worked both places! so please give the fine people at Cloyes gear in Subiaco Arkansas a call! you won't be disappointed i promise!

Tomato picking/packing. Any farm in Southeast Arkansas. I worked for a family farmer in Hermitage, AR, and I'm sure they'd get a big kick out of Mike Rowe trying to pack tomatoes. I'm reminded of the episode of "I Love Lucy" where she and Ethel go to work in the chocolate factory. Yes, it's that bad... except tomatoes are not as good as chocolate. Picture working in a long metal building in 110 degree weather in the middle of the summer from 8 in the morning til 8 at night with 100% humidity. And to top it off, every now and then you get your hand on a really rotten tomato coming down the conveyer belt... it gets real gross real quick. I do have to say, however, that the work is quite a real character builder, and the people are really nice.

Concrete Bridge Construction, Crouse Construction Company, Harrison, AR Not a day goes by that you don't go home covered head to toe with concrete, mud, oil(of all types), or soaking wet, not to mention drenched with sweat. Even more interesting would be Mr. Rowe's interaction with my crazy uncles, who are the foremen. Right alongside with cutting tobacco, its the hardest and dirtiest job I've ever done, and the people are characters. There's also plenty of heavy equipment and things to mess up. I have a NASTY,STINKY job for Mike. When I was younger, my husband cleaned out chicken houses for a living. He made good money but I kept walmart sacks by the door for him to put over his shoes before I let him in our house. He had to go straight to the shower and put his work clothes in the washer and take a shower with some "strong soap" before I would even kiss him hello. The worst days was when he had to clean out a "Layer" house. The poop is about two feet deep , soupy and accumulated for a year since the last cleanout. Then Mike could drive a loader, YUK... And then spread the goop on someones pasture for au-naturale fertilizer. The gathering of the eggs was nasty as well, not to mention the smell of "burning the dead chickens". I hope you will check it out. I can already see Mike walking around in a lake of chicken poop. I love this show. 'Bout time someone talked about real American jobs.Thankx

Re-posting for member. ozarkwalker Junior Member Posted 02-23-08 08:46 PM Lake Charles State Park Maintenance Worker, Powhatan, Arkansas Hey mike Why don't you come on down to Lake Charles State Park in Powhatan Arkansas and help us Maintenance guys out during one of our busy holiday weekends (Memorial Day, 4th of July, or Labor Day). We have Five Bath houses to clean, Dozens of Garbage cans in our picnic areas and along our swimming beach to Empty, and Sixty campsites full of people to tend to. During a general holiday weekend we have to clean each bathroom twice which usually means cleaning pooh off the floor or walls of at least one of them. Our Garbage cans also have to be Emptied at least twice a day and are usually overflowing and dripping with unknown liquids. Our campers usually aren't much trouble but sometimes leave their trash out at night and let animals strow it or they fill their fire rings up with trash and we have to go clean it out. Oh and I forgot to mention that we have our own Waste Water Treatment Facility. You can view information and pictures from Lake Charles at our website: www.arkansasstateparks.com/lakecharles/Thanks Brian
