I have been talking about submitting the most disgusting, toughest yet rewarding job I've ever had for years. Finally got online tonight, I guess Mike inspired me with is standard show ending plea for new ideas to keep your show alive.
My Uncle owns a Pool service company in Bowie, MD. Every year, as soon as the last trace of snow melts, his crews of 1 or 2 people work 7 days a week for about 2 or 3 months draining, acid washing and prepping commercial swimming pools for the summer.
I did this for one season while taking a break from college. I still don't know why, but the pools are not drained nor covered for the winter months. Some of the pools are 100K gallons and have an entire seasons worth of fallen leaves, cats, rats, thousands of worms, grime and everything else that found its way into the pool and died while closed.
Once drained, we sweep everything into piles. Then pick up the dozens of large piles onto trash bags. After rinsing down the pool, we crack a 20 gallon carboy of acid and wash the walls, quickly rinsing so that the acid doesn't eat away the finish. I still have several acid burns on my hands from when I did it 10 years ago.
It would be a long wet 12 hour day, usually ending with several dozen blue crabs and beers!
