I am sorry if I am always on my military soap box all the time but there are many survivor men over in Iraq now. This is my fourth time going back over there and I am 35 years old. Most of my troops are under 21 years of age. So when a you can leave your family time and time again to deploy to Iraq to fight a hidden aggressor that is called survival. All of this to return home to see another child that you missed the birth of, to miss another holiday, to miss a death in the family, or to return home to nothing.
Thank you and all your comrades for putting your life on the line for us. I deeply hope you survive this mess and will come home safely to your family. I feel if the "Commander and Chief" was out in the line of fire instead of playing golf this would have been over so much sooner.
Hi marineofone. As I mentioned before I did a tour with the Army in Vietnam. I thought that place was complex until I saw how bizarre combat must be in Iraq. My first CO was 26 and that seemed like 90 to me at the time. I guess that makes you roughly 150 or so. Close enough for government work.
Seriously though I wish you and your men the best of luck and you Marines have great respect from me. Get yourself and your men back safe and hopefully soon and then begin life again with the same inner strength of will you already have.
Thank you and your men for your service and I hope you don't mind an Army guy saying SEMPER FI.
Marine, I thank my fellow service men and women every day. Everyone here appreciates what we do. And thank you for what you personally have given to everyone. But perhaps we should be posting things like this in a place where they can actually do some good, and can effect attitude changes in people that do not support us.
Hi typical. I just had to say this and it's way more important than that friggin dog sled fiasco. You service men and women are supported far more than this forum. Please take this from me knowing there are wars and then there are the warriors who fight them. I'll respect your wishes not to go political here but if I can ever help just let me know and I will. My best regards.
Thank you very much. I hope my earlier statement was not taken as a flame. It was not intended to be one. I appreciate all the support given by you and others like you.
From your name I will assume that you are a vet. So I would like to personally thank you.
i dont mean to sound anti-supporter here, but just because there is a war going on in iraq, and dont get me wrong i support our troops all the way and i want them to be safe at home with there familys, but survivorman is just a show, ive learned quite a bit from it too, and sometimes i just dont want to think about the war, because for the past few years, thats all i see on tv, when i watch the morning news or the evening news, they almost always talk about it.
bless you for serving our country
but i just feel that sometimes... maby the war shouldnt be brought into some conversations..
typical, I never took that as a flame so no sweat. Yes just an old vet who has probably felt most of the things you're dealing with now or at least some. I sincerely meant wanting to help you or anyone military needing to rap, give advice or an opinion and save y'all the grief I had to learn the hard way if possible. Regards again.
Hey mythbusterguru, you just got here and don't even know the context of what this thread is about. This was one of the oldest threads that I refreshed by thanking an active duty Marine for his service to OUR country. Why don't you go back to busting myths or whatever it is you do. Ever think about who fought to give you that freedom? You didn't need to jump into this thread as that war point was already taken by yet another active duty service man and said much better than you did with fewer words.
For the soldiers and the vetrans that may have missed that before.
Without our Armed Service men and women we might all be typing this in German or Japanese.
I think I'll go on a rant here.......... I see folks everyday keeping tabs on hollywood celebrities, reading up on their favortie movie stars, and thinking these people are just the greatest. It makes me SICK.
The only TRUE Hero's out there today are the men and women, fighting and dying for our Great Nation. Yet, most of the time, their stories go untold. You never get to see the human aspect of this war....only the political SPIN and what the big networks WANT you to see.
I, for one, WANT to hear about our soldiers. I want to know about the dad of 3 boys that died when an IED hit his humvee. At least, if I know about it, I can send up a prayer for him and his family and thank him in my heart.
That is a hell of a lot more important to me than some stupid freekin bleach blonde that get's 48 MINUTES of "jail time" for DUI and drug possesion.
Since the rest of my rant will most likely contain politics....I'll just shut up now.
But, please know....regardless of what the "polls" say, EVERY PERSON I TALK TO not only supports this war, they also SUPPORT OUR MEN AND WOMEN FIGHTING IT.
marineofone, you're right - what your young troops are doing is hardcore survival - I am sure Les can appreciate that. It must be SO tough for these strong young men, who on some level think they are 'immortal', go over to Iraq and have war show them just how mortal they are. Scary. War is brutal mentally and physicall - more than I can imagine. It's not easy to be a leader in such a situation. Thanks.
redbud, great post. We owe our freedom in this country to service men and women. So many have died and suffered in agony for us and our lives. We need to be supportive of the troops whether we agree or disagree on being over there.

On the same day Anna Nicole Smith died, 5 people were killed and many more were scarred for life in a shooting at Trolley Square, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Guess which got more news coverage? The other day I turned on ET for a minute, and the guy said: "No one will ever forget the tragic image of Anna Nicoles body being carried off in a stretcher." It made me sick. What about the families that were just out on a Monday night shopping, and had their lives turned around by the death of a mother, or a father?
And people care more about some blonde druggie who overdosed.
Pathetic.
And Marineofone, bless you. Your awesome for serving the country.
EDIT: Anna Nichole died a few days before Trolley Square.

I probably should not post this because every time I do it turns into a flame war, but I have never been accused of having any tact.
We appreciate all the support you can give. But IMHO, if someone does not support what we dedicate our lives to, then they can not fully support us.
This support the troops but not the war crud came about after Vietnam, because the left realized they could not chastize the troops and still move forward in politics.
Trigeminal Neuralgia, a rare facial pain condition considered to be the most painful on the books.
Hey sweetie.....I'm right there with ya. I've been dealing with TMJD since I was 15.
I'm now 34. I've never had surgery for it (Thank God-as most end up 100 x's worse than they were before) but surgery's been recommended more than once......... So far it's been just deal with it. Some meds. Some jaw exercises. Some pain. Not that my pain can be compared to yours, but it's not a picnic.
hi red, I've read some real horror stories about TMD. In fact I have the TN on the right side of my face and Bruxism on the left for 2 years. The latter I have 2 mouth pieces for and it's cool now. Are they of any help to you?
Geez you're just a young chickadee at 34. I thought you were older since you are very bright and with wisdom no less. Who'd a thunk it?
I get shots of cortisone through my face into a nerve below the eye for the TN. Sometimes it helps but the pills are too much.
Unfortunatly, my "TMJ" isn't caused from bruxing or anything "fixable".
It's anatomical and trauma related.
Me and my horse were hit by a truck. He was doing about 55 mph. It's amazing we survived.......he was drinking. I ended up with 30 staples in my head and a really screwed up jaw and neck (which weren't GOOD before my accident) and he didn't have to do anything or pay anything...........no insurance. I have a civil suit, but I'm the first person to realize you can't get blood from a turnip.
Anyways..........with a pre-existing condition.......even though it's proven accidents can make them much much worse.....well, I'm poop out of luck. I haven't tried the mouth pieces. Every maxilofacial surgeon I've seen said that it would be a waste of money. What WORKS is me being conscience of my teeth placement ALL day long. I can not let my back molars touch at all. And I must concentrate on facial relaxation at all times. It works unless I have a flare up, which I have NO control over. Then I just fall back on Soma's and hydrocodone.
UGH!!!

Why........thank you.
My wonderful husband, Jack is 55. I like to think his wisdom has "rubbed off on me".
Some states have a victims fund set up for cases like yours. Don't know what state you live in, but it's worth investigating. Every little bit helps. I hope you win your civil suit.
red, when I first got the bruxism I read up on the TMJD? forums and felt so bad for people like yourself. Even though TN or actually TN II in my case is neurological, you're still dealing with the same trigeminal nerves on both sides of the face in your case.
I know you said you got your wisdom from Jack but believe me not all of it. Humilty too, what a gal.
One thing I've found about surgeons is they like to cut/operate. I got hustled into a kidney stent surgery after a bout of kidney stones and after they whacked me into goony bird land with a morphine drip.I never would have gone that route and take a wild guess on the route of the stent. Still miffed over that one.
Anyway, you've been through a lot. I've been using self hypnosis for almost 20 years now and it might help you in keeping your relaxation state. Take care.
