Because obviously people never ever have anything at all with them when they get lost. People just randomly pop up in the middle of nowhere with nothing but a knife and a flint.
Les is far more realistic than Bear. While Les may have more equipment, it places himself into situations that everyday people could find themselves in. Such as broken down in the desert, or loosing the trail while hiking.
Also, bear takes a LOT of highly unnecessary risks that no sane person would try in the wilderness. For example: shimmying up a fallen tree to cross a river. Not only was it dangerous, but the vast majority of people wouldn't be able to do it anyway because they're not strong enough.
Also, the reason Les stays put for as long as he does is because he understands that if you cant sustain yourself while stationary, how would you ever be able to survive while on the move? Les is smart in that he picks a location to get his bearings and rest up while at the same time learning how to survive in what might be an unfamiliar environment before going on the move.
Also, please learn English. It is your friend.

I'm somehow reminded of a quote from Deadliest Catch's Captain Phil of the Cornelia Marie. "This is why lions eat their young."

LMAO good one coolbandmon. Survivalppl- Are we sappose to take anything you say seriously? The episode you're refering to Les was required to take a gun because of the heavy polar bear popualation. He chose to abide the rules for an opportunity to film artic survival conditions.A snowmobile was used to show how thousands of people each year wind up in trouble during a day of recreation. Unlike Bear who get's dropped out of the sky, like all of us go jumping out of planes on the weekends. The real weakness here is your arguements momma'sboy.

There are legitimate Bear fans out there who probably enjoy the show for what it offers as entertainment. And then there are the people who don't read into anything they watch and immediately go off into their happy ADHD-inflected minds about how Bear is cooler than "Less" Stroud because he's hot or because he does stunts worthy of blockbuster movies for a show that teaches you to survive. So much of this constant mudslinging could have been prevented if it wasn't for them. For some reason, I also notice military types also tend to be into Bear. Is it the SAS brand name? The way his show's approach seems to be more reminiscent of how military are taught to escape enemy lines? I'll never figure it out. Personally, in the preference of survivalists between high-adventure glorification and everyday pragmatism, I prefer to think that "Less" is more.

Hey.....I love it when the "bear" fans post. You really get a true picture of what kind of people actually like that show.
Sometimes a little TOO true of a picture.

"all i'm taking is a knife a flint and a water bottle and i'm going to show you how to survive" yeah right anyone can talk in an english accent and talk the talk For one thing if you haven't noticed bear catches way more food than anyone can realistically catch. i've done this survival stuff and it is near impossible to get a decent meal of protein out there. anyone can pretend to survive in the wild and secretly sneak back into a hotel 6 and safely sleep there i don't know if you ever noticed but bear only shows part of a night on each episode. o and if you want to see the real Bear Grylles than go search him on youtube and you'll see him exposed as to what he really is A FAKE At times he shows some good stuff and i'll occasionally watch his show but les is the real survivalist on discovery channel. If you would actually research things before you opened your big fat mouth you might notice some important things. go look at the credits on the next mvw you watch and you will notice more than one survival expert listed. Not to mention in the beginning of the show it says the crew and bear get help at times. and i like the quote about why the lions eat their young but considering your mom is just as bad this is why people hunt "lions" so they don't have to put up with people like you and your mom who have no idea what you are talking about.

I sure don't like his show. Nothing he does is reminiscent of how I was trained either in survival or E and E. I guess maybe those military "types" who are young and inexperienced may be impressesd by the"other show" and the hosts antics.

MVW is so staged and faked, he also states that his camera crew helps out, now thats real survival. It makes for a good tv show for entertainment, but thats about it. Occassionally he has a few good tips and I like to watch it to see what stupid absurd stunt he will do, that no one should do even if they had rescue standing by. As I have stated before, MVW is a dog and pony show, nothing I would advise in a real situation.

Umm kid, he has a camera crew that helps him out and does all the stunts before they shoot him, they bring in dead rabbits because he doesn't have the skill to actually kill it, they give him nice horses from the local stable he sleeps in 5 star hotel at night he doesn't suffer from loneliness, and for your information Les brings a gun not a 20 man crew with 2 guns, a first aid kit, safety ropes, food, drinks and shoots 100ft from the highway. Whilst Les actually shoots in the middle of no where, he uses what an average day person would bring if they got lost, he does everything twice so he can film it. Yes Bear Grylls dos have a destination about 50ft from where he;s standing. So your little retated little 1milimetred brained ADHD'ed little manamana freak that sounds like a special person on drugs has been proven wrong! In slow words "that person is you."

3LIT3 NI64TMAR3,
Why not be civil, instead of stooping to the same level as those who come over here to bash Les?
Your opinion whether right or wrong is meaningless when you get into the whole name calling thing. None responds well to name calling in a forum and they really don't care what you have to say when you go there.

I am a total Les Stroud fan! I watch Survivorman to pick-up Survival Lessons, watch the FANTASTIC Scenery and Photography, listen to the Great Music and to learn from a REAL Person! As long as Survivorman continues to air, I will watch every Episode possible!! Now, that being said.... While I'm not a devoted Fan of Man vs. Wild, I do enjoy the show. I personally feel that the word "Survival" should NEVER be uttered on this show because in "Survival" mode, this show is reckless, misleading and dangerous. HOWEVER, as an "Adventure" show, Man vs. Wild is really Great. Bear Grylls has more guts and bravery in his little finger than I'll ever have. He was an elite Soldier and has hurdled challenges that deserve total respect. I don't care where he sleeps at night or that he is being filmed...He does GREAT work and produces a GREAT show. The two Shows DO NOT compare with one another. One is TOTAL Survival with a hint of Adventure, one is TOTAL Adventure with a hint of Survival. Both Bear Grylls and Les Stroud are masters at their Craft and NEITHER one should be put down! If you don't like one...Don't watch THAT one! I will continue to watch both. In this age of S****Y Television, Les and Bear ROCK!! "Don't be a Playa Hata'...just Hate th' Game" Oh and Survivalppl07....You are proof positive that People in the distant past have, in fact, mated with Buffalo!!!
